Now I'm confused. What does dignity have anything to do with it? More people do "weirder" things than check if their dreaming or not. Heck, I do weirder things than that on a daily basis.

If I went to school and started poking my finger at my hands, trying to walk through walls, or attempting to use TK, nobody would give me any respect. As sad as it sounds, most people at my school loose respect for those who look slightly weird.

Some kids are like that at my High school too. I say screw them. If they judge people like that then they have no place.
