I remember when I was really young, I would always have nightmares of being chased. I had a technique where I would blink my eyes rapidly to wake up.

However this would only work in nightmares -.-

I find this unbelievably fascinating. Is it just an ability that you're born with, or can you learn it? The ability to wake yourself up naturally. I would love to learn this ability, to wake on command.

Oh, and no, when I have a nightmare, i'm stuck in it. Although recently, what used to be a nightmare for me (being stuck in a zombie apocalypse city) has become almost enjoyable for me. Is that wierd?

Just after a couple of lucid dreams I once experienced sleep paralysis. I entered this state from a really weird dream scenario.

Totally freaking out I remembered that you can wake up if you look concentrate for some time on one point. This would screw up your eye movements too much to remain in REM sleep.

And so it did, I woke up.

Of course, now I realize it's just sleep paralysis but back then it was freaking weird :S

I always imagined it would be easy to wake from an LD, but now I am reconsidering that assumption.

All I did for years with lucidity was wake myself up. I used to only get lucid in nightmares.

Wen I was a lot younger, if I was having a dream with say a monster, I woke myself up by giving into the problem: eg:
I was being chased by a lion, and I was scared shitless, so I put my hand in it's mouth - when it bit me, I woke up. A technique I used for years.
      just lol...
