TheAnonymity, Unless you've tried one of these devices, I suggest you not knock it.
It's worth mentioning, I had a REMdreamer (A polish NovaDreamer knockoff that works quite well) that helped me get lucid, and though I didn't use it for nearly long enough to do full-blown experimentation, I learned to RC whenever I saw a bright red flash.
I look forward to getting the new model within a few more days, much more customization, as well as a new feature known as TWC, "Two Way communication"..a setting on the device where once you become lucid due to the bright lights, you move your eyes in a particular fashion, and it will stop cuing you, in order to prevent what TheAnonymity mentioned, it waking you up.
I would be willing to send you my old REMdreamer circuitboard, free, the problem is, I lack the instruction manual and the mask itself. So you'd only get in the mail a bare board and would have to do some painstaking research to try and find a REMdreamer instruction manual, and fashion a somewhat comfortable mask to slip the device into. In other words you'd have to be super patient, use trial and error, and try to find a reference for what the different switches mean and what settings they control. I'll continue to look for the other bits of the Old device, but I doubt I'll find them.
How electronic-savvy, handy, and patient are you?
