      Question Dream timescale?

Does anyone know exactly how time is observed in dreams is in the waking world? Like 1 dream second = 1 real life minute or something. i'm really curious about this so if anyone has done research on this please share

Stephen LaBerge and colleagues proved that dream time is roughly equal to real time. They did a number of experiments were dreamers would signal the onset of lucidity, count to ten, then signal again. Looking at their eye movements, they found that dream and real times are roughly similar. If I remember correctly, on average, dream time was like .3 of a second longer...I think.

Long periods of time in dreams are accounted for like they are in movies. Scene changes infer that more time has passed than actually has.

The guy above me is right but some people can seem to slow their perspective of time in lucid dream and you can do other things to actually make the dream longer.

Zezarict is right, time dilation and compression are possible.

I wonder, though, since time is relative, in and out of dreams....mmm that's for another board.

If you're thinking about going where I think you're thinking of going, let me bust this, post haste. Dream time cannot be significantly "stretched." Although it is possible to fast-forward, rewind, and pause time, you would not be able to do something like, say, live a full 16-hour day within your short REM period...at least, not as how you would expect. You could skip to the highlights of such a period, but large scene skips and gaps would occur. You can alter your perception of time...to some extent. You cannot, however, live an entire lifetime in your lucids as you do in reality. Even if you quadrupled your brain's speed and power (a feat impossible in itself), you would not come close to the desired results.

As the others stated above me, time dilation and compression are completely possible, and it is even possible to manipulate time in your dreams (think Time Machine by H. G. Wells ), you cannot "stretch" dream time to any significant figure. I'm sure some people would beg to differ with me on this, but from what we know of the laws of reality, we can safely infer that time stretching is not going to occur, or at least not to the Average Joe.

I didn't say that I said you can seem to change your own perspective of time, not slow time down in real life

I'm not disagreeing with you, mate...I'm just putting a stop to a common misconception before it begins.
