This is my thinking as well.

I'm also more intrigued about the fact that I wasn't trying to WILD at all but it just seemed to happen after one of my normal dreams ended in the middle of a sleep cycle. Just lucky me I guess

You probably noticed one of your natural, brief, mid-night awakenings. Your awareness carried over as you instantly fell back to sleep. Was this towards the end of your night's sleep? I often get several quick lucid dreams in a row towards the morning hours.

You can often re-enter a lucid dream if you catch yourself waking up. Just lie still, keep your eyes closed, and try to remember what you were just doing. Check out this tutorial:

I usually use DEILD in the morning and have great success with it, and this seemed totally different to how I usually DEILD, but I suppose it must have been. I guess I was just confused because it was such a different LD experience than I am used to.

And thanks for the advice Robot, I'm pretty good at re-entering dreams It's the best in the morning where I DEILD and can string about 4 longish lucids together because I keep re-entering them when I feel myself waking

I'd venture so far as to say you had a spontaneous DILD in which you were Lucid from the beginning. It's happened to me before; no surprise element, although I was exited that I was dreaming.
