      Woken up by hypnagogic imagery

So, for the first time I had a case of hypnagogic imagery. I was doing a relaxing technique, and was almost unconscious when suddenly I like, gasped for breath. At the same time, someone in my head laughed hysterically. It wasn't an evil laugh, and it wasn't scary. It just startled me, and I bolted upright.

I tried going back to sleep, but was unable to achieve it again. Does this happen often?

I've had similar things happen... it seems like usually if my mind is overstimulated... like if it's been a stressful day or I drank too much caffeine. Not sure it's quite the same thing. I've had loud voices and laughter like you describe ring through my ears for a long time and keep me awake. Usually it ends after a while though and I can get to sleep.

very interesting - in the last 4-5 days I'm doing the everyman2 technique (basically sleeping 4.5 hours at night + 2x 20min naps during the day and still feeling "productive and not like a truck hit you" )

      - it's not specifically an LD induction technique, and is aimed ad creating more waking time without feeling like crap, but it is known to cause LD's - I've had 2 already. In any case I'm experiencing a new phenomenon where in the last week I've been woken up 3 times- indeed woken up would be too strong a word- just as I'm dozing off for a nap I suddenly hear a very loud noise - once it was a violin, once a laugh, once metal being hit, etc that I knew I was imagining but it was like I was imagining it VERY loudly - we all have a "volume limit" on how loud our thoughts can be - this exceeded that limit by 150% or so and startled me every time.

TAKE DV members advice with caution! some have had zero or 1-2 LD's yet act like gurus
      TOTAL LD's (almost all DILD/MILD) =160!!
new goals: have more LD's than Shift[X]
