      What is Sleep Paralysis?

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum. Which it is probably is. I am wondering, What exactly is sleep paralysis? I've seen a couple of videos on youtube where people are sleep paralyzed and it looks scary. And I've been reading tutorials and stuff about lucid dreaming and it said you need to experience sleep paralysis to get into lucid dreaming, dream control, etc. I am actually afraid to try to attempt this. I want to get into deep into Lucid Dreaming but I am afraid something bad will happen. This will be my first time. How does the sleep paralysis work? Is there another way to get to full lucid with out having to experience sleep paralysis or do you have to experience it any way?

Well, you'll be pleased to know that sleep paralysis is not necessary to have a lucid dream!

Sleep paralysis (often abbreviated to SP) is what stops your body moving while you are asleep. Normally it happens after you fall asleep, but people attempting the WILD (Wake Initiated Lucid Dream) technique focus on keeping their mind concious as they fall asleep, and are therefore concious while the sleep paralysis begins.

However, you can become lucid using many other methods, such as reality checking in your dream, which requires no sleep paralysis whatsoever!

(And this forum is fine for this subject!)

That sounds like some good info there. I hope I don't have to experience that. I'm trying to find ways to help me be lucid but I have a small room and I sleep on a couch... I have a tv in my room also along with my Wii and PS2. And I have double doors in my room and my brother likes to pester me when I try to sleep. So I can't get any lucid dreams going on. Because my family tends to get noisy sometimes. I don't know how I can be lucid with out getting any interruptions. What you get for living in a trailer. If anyone could give me any tips that will help me with my lucid dreaming with out any disturbances that would be great.

Earplugs? Don't worry about sleep paralysis, it can actually be great fun. Of course you don't have to experience it if you don't want to, there are plenty of other methods.

Yes, I am quite familiar of knowing how to use a search engine. I was in a rush when I was asking this question. I've been on forums for years, so I'm quite familiar of knowing how to use one. Thank you.
