      Virtual Reality

I've been thinking... isn't virtual reality techonology rather pointless? Why not just have lucid dreams instead?

Really depends on the convenience and availability, but in terms of superiority, LD would beat any virtual reality, but of course some ppl would rather get VR

Personally (not that I've really ever done VR), they are both good for different reasons. In VR, you are more awake and aware then in any LD, but of course in LD's, there are INFINITE possibilities, etc.
If you see a strange typo in my post, blame my iPad for that.

      Short story series about LD'ing:

When you wake up in the morning does your LD feel diff? or just has a LUCID context, with realization and bla bal bal

      Pros of virtual reality:
      Accessible whenever you want it
      Consistent
      Can be instantly mutiplayer

      Cons of virtual reality:
Would cost an arm and a leg
      Creating content would be hard
      It wouldn't be hugely realistic
You are limited to what you can do - there aren't endless variables

      Pros of lucid dreams:
You can do it while you sleep
      Endless possibility
      Powered by the imagation
      Accessible to anyone freely
Provides unique dreams to each dreamer

      Cons of lucid dreams:
      May not last very long
      Can have varying vividness
      Can be inconsistent
      Can be hard to control
      Dreamer may forget dream
Attaining lucidity can be difficult, and doesn't always work

Well, VR technology would be like any normal game, just more realistic, people still play games in waking, right? So it can't be useless lol
Plus, it is easier to do that than LD if you don't have the patience and have extra money.

This makes me wonder. Do they have any virtual reality stuff invented yet or does it not exist? If it was invented do you think they would work?

If your dreams are less realistic than video games, you need to work on vividness.

Yes it has been invented, but I think it'll be a while before you can buy VR sets in Tesco. But surgeons use it for training apparently.

Even if they were available to the public affordably , the technology won't be amazing. Not compared to lucid dreaming at least. Its still got a way to go.

Haha well some of the games nowadays have REAL good graphics so they can seem pretty realistic to

It'll probably be many, many years before VR can simulate all the senses which come naturally in lucid dreams. Sure, sight and sound are fine, but all-over touch, smell and taste would take a device capable of controlling those parts of your brain to be as good as LDs.

Virtual reality during waking hours, LDs when sleeping... no need to ever step out into "real life"

The next is "Beyond Dreaming"-stuff, so beware:

Thomas Campbell, author of "My Big Toe" believes that we already live in a Virtual Reality, maybe he's right... The Budhist's also have the saying: "It's all an Illusion" when describing our so called physical world. An interesting thought really...

It's too bad virtual reality machines don't just induce lucid dreams with a predefined back story or something like that

LDing on demand like that would be sooooo great.

Plus that would be true virtual reality IMO, something that fully occupies the senses of the mind. There's nothing anywhere near that atm.

I believe there was talk about entertainment companies trying to use dreaming for virtual reality.

Based on the amount of people who seem to use lucid dreams as a literal 'virtual reality' or 'video game', I could see a lot of people paying a lot of money to 'play' a lot of VR. Also, it seems that a lot of people think you need 'drugs' to have an experience like an LD, so I can imagine it becoming bigger over the alleged 'next' decade.
