Stuck between Reality and Dream worlds

Hey guys, just a quick message and a question.

Sometimes when I WILD it doesn't work properly, my technique may be wrong however I enter a rather unusual state, some may claim sleep paralysis but I can still move freely in this 'state.'

Its easier to describe like this; basically, the stage where you know you're awake in real life but you are still going along happily in your dream, sometimes for me it happens for about 5 seconds or a split second but on the other hand it can happen for a prolongued period of about 30 seconds to a minute, this is usually the stage where I wake up, I thought it may be a REM period coming to an end while im lucid or something, but nomatter how hard I try once i reach this stage, Ican't seem to get back into the dream and im forced to slowly wake up.

I was wondering if there was any way to prevent this little 'state' or any way to surpress it for a longer period of time to ensure I can have more FUN in my dreams and not have the fear of waking up. D:

      All help appreciated, thanks guys.

You've probably heard this before and are going to get sick of hearing it, but there's no wrong way to WILD, my friend.

Well, I'd say that's just one little thing about the process of a WILD that you're probably not going to be able to avoid, and yet, I don't think it's really all that necessary to really give attention to avoiding it, rather than just continue to practice your WILD method and eventually you'll find all the ins and outs of how to work each aspect of it; when you know to enter the dream, when you know you have hit SP even if you don't feel it quite the way you expected, stuff like that. It's just something that'll either go away with practice, or will become a part of your method that won't be a problem after you've worked with WILDs enough.

Hope this leads you to more fun in your dreams!

I'm not on DV much these days, but I'll try to toss a cool dream or two into my DJ.

It also sounds a little like it might be partially a false awakening, at which point (because you're so intent on maintaining your dream) you think you've woken up and get annoyed and because of that you actually wake up. I've found that keeping calm and relaxed regardless of what is happening is important in maintaining dreams, otherwise (I'm guessing) your body reacts to your feelings and chemicals wake you up. Just try to remain calm -- don't worry about technique, relax and let yourself go back to sleep. It's just like sleeping in, really
I'd rather be asleep and living than awake and dreaming.

Sounds to me like you're not fully entering the dream state.

Are you trying to WILD immediately after going to bed, or are you attempting a WBTB first? If you're not already, try a WBTB then WILD and see how you fare.

A WBTB stands for "Wake Back To Bed" and is the method I normally use to LD when seriously trying to induce one (as I typically have a good success rate using this method). Essentially, this is how it works:

      - You go to bed at night as you normally would any night of the week.

      - You set an alarm (or something) to wake you up much earlier than you normally would wake up (for me its about 4-5 hours after going to bed)

      - You then stay awake until the grogginess of waking up has gone away. You should still easily be able to go back to sleep should you lie back in bed however.

      - You then go back to bed and WILD from this state.

The reasons why this works so well:

      - Un-clutters your mind of all the random thoughts and stresses of the previous day, thus helping to avoid falling into a regular "random" dream caused by a lack of mental focus.

      - It puts you into a state where you are mentally awake but physically tried, which means less "wait time" for sleep paralysis to set in or for your body to fall asleep. Plus, it takes virtually no effort on your part to make this happen as your body will be naturally inclined to do this for you (given the interruption of your regular sleep cycle pattern).
