      Seamless nightmare-transition

Hey everybody, i just felt like sharing an interesting nightmare i had last night. It was in the dead of night and i was standing on a road in the middle of nowhere when it suddenly started to rain heavily and a thunderstorm rolled in. A lightning tore the sky and the silhouette of a man appeared on the crest of the road, then he was gone (without the lighting, the area was almost completely black). I got terrified, knowing this man was out there somewhere. Another flash of lightning made the man appear and this time he was a couple of feet infront of me, looking at me. I got chocked and i woke up, and as soon as that happend, a flash of lightning went through my bedroom, and the man was there, staring me right in the eyes, just a couple of inches away from my face, i then woke up (for real this time), but i was looking in the exact same direction as i was in my false awakening, also my blood was pumping from the whole experience, so i didn't realise the transition from the dreamworld-bedroom to the real world bedroom, so i totally freaked out, and thought for a few minutes that the man was really there. It's been a long time since i was so afraid (if ever). I did several RC's to make sure, and i had to really try to relax for about 20 minutes before i could try to go back to sleep.

Whoa. That waking experience is weird. I once had a similar waking experience. I thought I swallowed a lightbulb, and thoughts were running through my mind that it might break in my stomach and I might DIE, until I realised that it was impossible.

Yup, thats some scary stuff right there.

I dont think I have had a false awakening.. But a couple times I have heard the roar of a beast and the sound of very long claws on the tiles outside my room. I was fully concious, and once saw the beast enter my room.

Im not sure if thats a false awakening though, could be more of.. Im not sure, anyone know what that might be called? Half of a WILD?

Sorry if it seems im hijacking your thread, monochromic.

wow. you see it's stuff like that that makes me paranoid and sleep with guns and swords. I still peek around before waking up though incase it ever hap[ens it's a routine, (I sleep completly under the blankets, how i breathe I dont know) and i'll pke an eye through before I wake up.

That experience would have me crap myself. like all over, WOW.

I've never had a false awakening, but i've had one experience, where I could slow down time in an L.D. and I was sleeping on the couch, so I thought I just sat down and watched tv. I forgot about falling asleep, and Later on I tried to do it in front of a mirror, when I realized what happened, as I didnt remeber going outside.

Good luck with keeping shait like that away man, scary stuff.

Isn't it strange how strong experiences like that always seem to be fear related. I hardly ever hear anyone say that they had that type of false awakening where they were lying in bed with a group of sexy island girls (or hunks, for you ladies). I mean, fear is as much a primal instinct as sex and survival!

I do the same thing, (it's a security thing) except I make a little passage way on the side of the blanket to let air in. It's because I sleep in the basement and the furnace goes on about every hour or so, and it makes a squealing noise (kind of like a police siren.) It scares the hell out of me every time it happens. But I do wake up and remember a lot of dreams, so it's not all that bad.

That's true, and as you say, fear is a very primal instinct, and very important in our survival, especially in the night when we're asleep. Fear can really get the adrenaline pumping, and you can become alert directly from deep sleep in a matter of seconds if your mind thinks that there's something you have to protect yourself from (or run from in my case )

It *is* fear that makes us survive - without fear, we woud not be abe to experience any other emotion.
This reality is like a goldfish bowl. The dreamworld is the same, but larger. It's easy to get lost.

Glad I'm not the only guy who does it. My closet and Tv and Heating Shafts Crack and Snap and Pop All night. and the toilet is across the wall right by my head. (I hate those Midnight washroom breaks my family takes)
Your right about waking up and having a good memory of things though, but it's horrible when your in the middle of something good. I too am scared shitless at a lot of stuff that goes on during the night, this makes WILDS really hard to do, i'll always find myself jumping out of bed to make sure nothings there (Yes, yes i'm paranoid).

Back on topic, Yes I agree, I think fear is very important, and kind of cool, I'll use it to my advantage where I can, bback when i was younger, I'd use the excceleration of fear to win fights on the school yard, it prevents pain in a way aswell, When your scared. It can be useful and a lot of times fun. Acting on fear is good to do.

when u think of it, ure dream is like the typical horror movie, i mean you've got:
      1.nighttime
      2.thunderstorm
      3.scarey man in lightning
Interesting though, i know if i had a false awakening seeing the guy from the dream, id be scared.

Yes i know, my dreams are often very movie-like, especially when i take B-6 (which i did on the night in question). It probably helps that i'm a filmmaker, and therefore often analyse the structures and themes in movies.

While reading the topic title, I realized about 80% of my lucid dreams have stemmed from nightmares. That is to say, when I am in a nightmare, I am frantically searching for ways it isn't happening, and hope that I'm dreaming. I am going to start trying WILDs tonight, but all of my lucid dreams so far have just been from regular dreams and my gradual awareness. Does anyone else become lucid from nightmares?
