Since different people dream differently and react differently do different methods or techniques, there's no clear and fast way to gauge how effective one method is for absolutely everyone. What will work perfectly for one person will not work at all for another or will sort of work for a third.

As far as WBTB, it is simply another tool that people use not just to become lucid but also to help develop the habit of recalling dreams and writing them down. Anything that you do to get your mind on your dreams is going to help you to make progress towards lucid dreaming. It's all up to you, how hard you work at becoming lucid, how persistent you are with your dream journal and with questioning reality, and so on and so forth.

Are you asking whether or not WBTB will work for you? Unfortunately I can't answer that. I'd say that if you are willing to try it, it can't hurt. I received my first LD after a WBTB.... wow, that seems like so long ago. At any rate, it's up to you.

      ^Good post.

I believe Stephen LaBerge did a poll/study on WBTB and found that it increased chances of lucidity up to 60% or something like that. As for me, I'd say it's around 40% or so. Like Ame said, it's different for everyone. This is however, by far, the most effective method of attaining lucidity I've used.
