Joined today because of last nights dream. What is going on?

Hi, I have regular lucid dreams. I didnt know what they were at first until I did some research on the web. Basicaly I am aware that Im dreaming but cannot "surface" from nightmares etc.

The dream I had last night I have experienced before but not to such a large degree. What on earth is this? Has anyone else experienced it?

Ok, so I am shopping in the town where I grew up. The town becomes unrecocognisable and I cant find way home. All normal of course but then I experience what I can only call a psychotic experience in my dream. At the end of a street I see the sea in the distance. This isnt my hometown I think. Anyway as I approach the beach the scene changes and it is like an old fashioned 40s dock with men drowning and calling out to me to save them. I find some wood and try to pull a man out but I fall in and my clothes are soaked. I then think to myself now if this really happended when I get back to my normal part of the dream my clothes will be wet. Sure enough, the scene goes back to the normal unrecognisable town and I reach down and I am wet. (its like a lucid dream inside a dream) I then look for a policeman because I want to tell them Im seeing things and going mad. To cut a long dream short, I keep having "episodes" where I find myself in a dangerous situation and keep escaping then coming back to "normal".

      What do you think?

Sounds like a dream to me. I've experienced a lucid dream inside a dream, which I consider to be a dream more so than a lucid dream. It's hard to pinpoint exactly where these dreams are coming from, as dreams are more or less subjective. However, it seems as though you are so eager to lucid dream that your mind is simulating one before you are even able to truly experience one.

If you've had a lucid dream before, you know it... and you know the difference between a lucid dream and a "half lucid", which is what many of the members of Dreamviews would term the dream you've experienced. When you have a true, full lucid dream you feel as though your conscious self is present.

I'm drunk right now, I hope this is the type of response you were looking for.

I dont try to lucid dream. It just happens. Usually bad things are happening so it is not good. I dont enjoy it.

What Im worried about is that in last nights dreams I felt although I had a real certificate of "madness". I can only explain it as if it were real life then the experiences I had in the dream were psychotic which is worrying. I was worried about my mental health in the dream.

Hmmm.. that is very strange. Could it be possible that you were having a bit of an existential crisis while dreaming? You were aware you were dreaming, yet you still felt at the mercy of your situation and surroundings? You were being forced in a direction while making the "conscious" decision to do so?

I have a feeling this is the case. It is important to know that dreams are still a reflection of your subconscious, lucid or not. It is the reason it's very difficult to have perfect dream control. Let me know what you think.

Sounds like a non-lucid dream. Just because you know that your clothes will be wet when you return to another location within the dream, doesn't mean you're aware that you're dreaming.

I really don't think this was lucid. Did you really know you were dreaming? If there's doubt surrounding your answer to that question, generally it wasn't a lucid.

I'm not on DV much these days, but I'll try to toss a cool dream or two into my DJ.
