Just joined today...a bunch of questions

I've always wondered why a friend of mine always had "sleeeeppp ZzzZz.." in his away messages in AIM and aways went to bed at 10pm every night. He would say "aw yes I get to go home and sleep" and I would get confused as to why he sleeps so much. Then today, he told me about lucid dreaming and I am pretty interested. I have a couple questions that i hope you guys will answer (I didn't really read the main Dream Views site because I hope these questions an be answered):

      1. When you have a LD, itsn't it kinda like taking crack or any other drug? I mean many people take drugs so that they can get away from life. It's that really dangerous if all you want to do all day is LD and not do anything else because your life sucks?

      2. When you are LD'ing, wouldn't you be going against the way our minds work? I mean there's gotta be a side effect. My friend said that he has sleep paralysis as a result of LD'ing and says that if he knew that he would get sleep paralysis as a result of LD'ing, he would have never started. Is it that serious? I mean I don't want to be immobile when I am awake.

      3. They say you can do almost whatever you want in your dream. Say, for example, I want to have sex with britney spears. I am only 16 years old and probably one of the youngest people here. Thus, a paradox emerges. If I have never felt what it is like to have sex, how am I supposed to know what it feels like when dreaming?

      4. Can somebody explain why my dreams are so weird and strange and why I rarely remember them (like right when i'm awake, I don't never know I had a dream)? IE: I am in a stadium watching race cars then I am warped back home then I have to race some crazy dude up a hill with steps, then I am with my dad and sister and we are driving around looking at houses.

      5. I've read somewhere that our brains are like 1000000000000000 gig harddrives that store everything we see and do. My memory really sucks and I don't have such a vivid recollation of my past and childhood as my friends do. When I am LD'ing, can I ask my brain what happened on so-and-so date? Will my brain tell me answers to questions I've had about me?

      6. When I am in my dream, can I study or do homework? Sometimes I am really tired and just want to go to bed so is there anyway I could study in my brain so that I will know the answers the next day? Isn't LD'ing a very helpful way to get ready for a test because you can concentrate on what you will be tested on so you'll remember it better the next day?

      7. Is LD'ing pretty safe?

      8. Does anybody know if Speed Sleep works?

      edit more questions:

      9. If something bad or evil gets stuck in your mind or some song you don't like stays in your heard while awake, won't you have a bad LD?

      10. I've always been really lazy and unmotivated. Can I findout more about myself and improve on who I am while LD'ing?

I rarely remeber any of my dreams, even though I am supposed to have them every night. Is LD still attainable? Thanks if you can help!

      Welcome Mus1k,

LD isn't really dangerous that I know of, other than really wanting to sleep more if you let yourself fall into that habit. Like anything you want to do it in moderation.

There a lot of people on this board that know a lot more than me, but I've been LDing for a long time, just not in full control. More like, watching it and knowing it is a dream. I am sure there are others than can fill you in better than I can.

Well first off, welcome to the forums!!Have a banana

      Now, on to your questions.

1.I don't think its dangerous, because as long as you have common sense, you'll know better than to sleep your life away.

2.There are no side effects that I know of.Sleep paralyis happens every night to everyone, but I suppose when you start doing things such as WILD to get lucid you will notice the sleep paralyis.

3.Well, its the same concept as flying in a dream..You don't know what it will feel like, so your mind makes up a feeling.Sex is going to feel exactly how you think it should feel in your dreams.Oh yeah, btw Im the 2nd youngest here, Im 13 So you don't have to feel like your to young. There are a lot of 16 yr old here.

4.Everybody has wierd dreams..mine are especially wierd. The reason you can't remember them well is because you haven't tried remembering them.Keep a dream journal for a week, it'll work wonders on your dream recall.

5.huh..interesting concept.Never tried it myself, I say give it a shot and see what the results are.Don't forget to tell us.

6.Great idea, Im sure if you attain enough lucidity this will be an easy(not to mention fun) way of studying.

7.There is a 0.0% chance of something hurting you ect in and ld.Unless, like lucius has told us about and enlightened us upon, in an ld your in a bubble where you have control and can do anything. If you try to leave this bubble and enter the bigger scope of things, that is where things may get dangerous.Of course, this is all theorized, as none of us have expierenced something like that.

8.Never heard of that..I wonder if anyone else has?

9.Well..if you think that there will be a monster around the next corner, odds are there will be, but as for songs stuck in your head, I don't really know.

10.I suppose if you meet your dreamguide(which I believe is your subconcious in the form of a person) within your dream, you could ask it questions, and get in touch with your innerself.

11.Of course its attainable!I didn't remember hardly any dreams till coming here.

Well, thats my 2 cents.I highly reccomend you read the main pages too though.
      You guys suck.

Wow thanks for the replies and warm welcomes . Okay I read the main pages on the Dream Views site and I decided to put what I learned to use! I was really tired when I got home and I decided to take a nap. I found my old spanish notebook that I used in class, and it was the perfect size for a dream journal. Anyway, as I feel asleep today, I told myself, "you will remember your dream" over and over again. When I woke up, the dreams that I had were so vivid in my memory and I could precisely remember everything that went on! Even now, I have a perfect picture of what went on in my dreams. I didn't have any control of my dreams, but after having these vivid dreams today, I remember many different dreams I had in the past that I seemed to have forgotten. I now remember that I did in fact have a LD way back when I was like 5 or 6 years old. In that dream I had, I remember having a weird dream and then waking up only to realize that I was still dreaming. That was the only memory I have of a LD. I don't want to really go in depth with the dreams I had today because the fact that they are too weird. Just to let you know, I have been trying to play guitar better these past few days, thus I dreamed about guitar class. I have also been watching a lot of Naruto (japanese anime) so I had a dream where I could go through walls and do things realted to naruto. Very interesting! Thanks for all the info on this site and I hope to get better at LD'ing to reach my goal of being able to control my dreams!
