Do you dream in colour?

I couldn't find a thread based on this, but I tink it's weird how many people seem to have "black and white only" dreams.

99% of the time, my dreams are in full vibrant colour, in fact at times the sharpness, colour and detail in my dreams seems beyond that of reality and has helped gain lucidity.

I've also had 1 or 2 that are black and white only and actually "looked" like I was watching an old movie starring myself (a little bit flickering, like a rolling film)

I suppose there is the possibility of only having a few colours in dreams (hence why I added "Other" at the bottom)

Ive heard that all dreams are black and white and its been scientificaly proven, but when I became lucid once and checked there was definitly color I dont ever think I had a black and white dream before. I always dream in full color. But if you think about it dreams are just are imagination anyway and you could imagine anything.

where did you hear this crock of information? it's obviously not true and how the hell did they "prove" it. Unless technology made another leap and is now able to illustrate dreams via through the plasma TV

I always dream in colour, but have a bad habit of not paying attention to little things, so that when I'm remembering the dream, a colour only sticks out unless it made a big impact on the dream and had some meaning to it. And so when I go to try and recall what colour things were, I can't remember. It's the same sometimes with people's faces. I find I don't look at their face all the time in my dreams, or sometimes I never see them to begin with. I know they're there, and I'm talking to them, but I'm really not paying attention to the physical details. (which is probably one of the reasons why I don't go lucid as often as I should)

I always dream in color. I dont knwo if ive ever heard of anyone who dreamed in black and white. It sould suck to be them. yea, so i have color and texture in my dremas( i say texture beacse it really does affect color.)

Of course dreaming in color is great. But I think a dream that was all black and white (or sepia tone or something like that) would be kinda cool in a way. It would be like living inside an old photograph or something.

What about this, has anyone ever dreamed of being back in time, say in the 40's? Was that dream in color? If so, how could it be if you've only seen black and white photos of what things looked like back then (assuming your not like 70 years old)?

Yes. I had to vote other for the simple reason that I just had a recent dream that seemd to have colors in it that I was never aware of before.

I dream in color, but I really don't pay attention to the colors of things. xD

Like, If I was actully paying attention to something.. say the clothes I was wearing in a dream, then I could recall it.. But if it was just a random part, I can't realyl remember it. xD

I had a dream in b&w once, but I made my subconscious colour it.

But that's the only time I ever remember having had a dream in b&w.

I can only recall one non-lucid dream that was not in color.. I believe all others have been in color.

My lucid dreams are always in vivid "living" color (sometimes even better).

I don't remember any black and white dreams that I've had. So I always dream in color. My friend dreams in black and white and she is the only person I've ever known to actually do this... maybe Black and White dreaming is a condition...

When I was young 7-11? I remember dreaming in black and white, and in the dreams I was wearing a blind fold, evertime. It gave me limited vision but if I took it off I had no vision, eventually after a full control lucid dream between ages 9-11 (not too sure) my dreams became colour. Based on my experiences I prefere colour, but my experiences in black and white are limited. Due to memory and few dreams I guess.

I heard it from my mother but I was asking the same question it didnt make sense to me either.

Something like that was in that final fantasy movie that came out a few years back. Looking back, it does seem pretty awesome.

It does not make sense that dreams would be black and white. Even if they were "colored", the coloration would be so instantaneous, that it would be as if there was always color in the experience. Besides, if one normally sees something in color, and color is but the reflection of light wavelengths, why would we see black and white? How would the mind know that colors to make black, and which white, and which gray?

However, to elaborate on this argument think about what color is.

Its different wavelengths of light registering in your retinas. The light causes you to perceive a certain color.

However, everyone claims to dream in color. But obviously, there cannot be different wavelengths of light making you "see" different colors in your dreams.

So the brain has to come up with something else that causes this so called "light".

Pretty interesting that our brains can fabricate stuff like this and completely fool us. In my dreams, I would neevr argue that im not seeing "color"... What else does it bluff us on?

If you think about it color would be just like anything else that your brain manifests. A tree, car, they are all based on the memory of a perception I would think.

The true question is do we see in color or colour?

Well I dont think so...they are similar no doubt, but in waking life, there is something in the outside would that stimulates your eyes, resulting in the perception of color. In dreams, it is ___ (memories, your brain, who knows) that causes the perception of color.

I don't ever think I have had a black and white dream that I could remember. However, I can only recall the actual color of something in my dream if it's the focal point of the dream (except in LDs where I force myself to take in the detail).

But how can you disprove black and white dreaming? One of my friends dreams in black and white.
