      Layl's Workbook

Here's my workbook probably going to actually... make it bigger, perhaps include some interesting stuff.

      General Information

      Reality Checks:
Thinking back what I was doing that brought me here. (spotting transitions between areas that aren't possible and such, that happens often in my dreams)

      Dream Signs:
Impossible architecture, transitions that can't happen, buildings forming around me.
Time seems to skip like a movie would in many dreams, but not all.

      Short-Term Goals:
Having reliable 1 dream/night dream recall. Done!
Having a lucid dream lasting at least a minute. Done! (March 15, 2013)
Having a lucid dream where I remember to try changing something.
Drive a Scavenger. (from Unreal Tournament)
Acquire a lucid dreaming achievement unlocked by placing a Wii-Fit board in front of a TV and smashing it with a croquet mallet.

      Long-Term Goals:
Being able to lucid dream whenever I want.

      Lucid/Dream Recall History:
5 second lucid dream once before waking up.
Dream recall started going up since I started writing it down again.

      Current Technique:
No reliable success yet, trying anything I can.

      Lesson I

      Dream Journal
I'll write the dreams I really like to my DJ on this site.

      Sleep/Wake-Up Times
I have a spreadsheet I record times in, I will post a link here once I can do so.

      Reality Checks
Since nothing weird here really happens, I set up a timer that doesn't require me to hit snooze instead. Letting it run through the night as well.

Hey Layl, glad you started your workbook.

So the architecture dream sign is pretty interesting! I tend to have buildings already there in a dream, but then they morph on me

Anyway, so what's your sleep schedule ordinarily? Based on that, we can give you some direction with respect to an induction method. In the meantime, definitely take advantage of the posted lessons. They'll help you zero in on the technique that's right for you.

My sleep schedule is a big mess, I'm only now starting to stabilize it, which is why I didn't write it down. I'm going to record sleeping times and wake ups in my dream journal and see what works. ^_^

      Status Update

It has been a few days now since I actively started working on lucid dreaming, with not much success so far. Dream recall, while better, is still very fractured and incomplete.
I tried out DEILD, but while I can remember to keep my eyes closed, I can't seem to remember to not move. WILD so far has had no results. I started trying increased awareness but since I started I've been feeling a sort of distant constant feeling of panic that's making me uncomfortable. I also have set an alarm that periodically reminds me to do a reality check and I'm hoping I'll hear it in a dream.
I'm currently in a situation where I can adjust my sleep schedule whatever way I want and I now tend to sleep at 1-2AM and get out of bed somewhere around 10AM.

      Status Update

I managed to get a lucid dream (hurrah) but unfortunately I didn't do anything in it for some reason (hurroo). I clearly remember that at two points I decided to spin to keep myself in the dream because it was breaking up, but still I was following the dream, not even considering my lucid dreaming goals. So close yet so far. >_<

Here is the dream itself in detail, taken from my dream journal:
I get brought to an office by someone who I apparently treat as a father. I need to be somewhere there. We drive past a scene where people in fluorescent vests turn cars to the side and people get out at the then top. Apparently it's crash training. We continue driving over the road to then take a turn and drive back a bit, I say something about versions of things and then we end up at an entrance, and the scene cuts like a movie.

We walk over a sort of bridge and he asks if I know where I should be. I start spinning to stabilize the dream. I then ask where the central building is and he points at a pretty big building. There is a direct way to go there but for some reason I appear to take a roundabout route. At some point I think to myself that since I have a rubber boat with me I can paddle over the water if needed, then I think no that is silly.

I end up at some security office and am about to ask someone there something but someone else talks over it and I start to gradually wake up. I try to spin to stay in the dream but fail.

Overall I appear to be lucid but following the dream anyways, ignoring all my dream goals.

Congratulations!! Nice job hitting that LD so soon after starting up with class. Do you have any sense of how you became lucid? Anything like a feeling of general suspicion, a reality check, that kind of thing? Try to remember everything you can about what worked and it'll help you start to get a sense of your personal LD style.

No worries on flowing with the dream plot a bit and forgetting your dream goals. That can actually be a difficult thing to do sometimes without losing lucidity, so kudos to you for staying lucid even while following the currents of the dream. So what are some of your short-term goals? (I noticed that one was having an LD > 1 minutes, which you surely accomplished with this one.)

If you can think of some potential LD activity that really excites you, do everything you can to remember it. This workbook's a great place to write that sort of thing down. I think that it's a good idea to always have 1 or 2 cool, very specific dream goals in mind. If you can fall asleep thinking about and imagining yourself doing that activity, I find that it becomes much easier to remember what you had in mind. Memories from waking life don't always cross over to a lucid dream as readily as we might like, but I find that I can much more easily reach thoughts that were on my mind right before bed.

      Very nice work!

I don't know when in the dream I became lucid, I seemed to be lucid the entire dream. There isn't one point where I thought "hey this is a dream" but I did do the spinning as soon as I realized the dream was fading.
I simply didn't even try to remember my dream goals for some reason. :/

I wasn't actively thinking "I'm dreaming" so I can't be entirely sure, but it does seem that way.

      Successful WILD!
I ended up at one point in the dream after being zoned out a while listening to the music I had put on my headset for it, with some vivid visualization going on unintentionally. I am not sure how I realized I was in the dream but eventually I did. I was still in bed and still could hear the music. I managed to entirely make myself go up straight (not by actually moving, somehow while eyes are closed making myself float upwards and up straight, strange sensation) and opened my eyes to see a messy unstable dream scene of my bedroom. It was for some reason hard to keep open my eyes or to move and I think the excitement then was the reason I woke up.
Woo! Such a great confidence boost! Time to get 2 hours remaining sleep time before my day begins.

Layl, that is awesome! Congratulations on that WILD!

I wonder whether the music allowed you to anchor your conscious mind just enough to keep you aware as you crossed over into a dream. I would definitely try this again!

Did you perform any sort of WBTB? At what point in your nightly sleep cycle did this WILD occur? Note down everything you can while the details are still with you.

Anyway, excellent achievement! Keep up the great work.
