Agh, I know the feeling, man! It's tough when your subconscious is right there trying to drop the biggest hints that it can, but the dreaming mind is great at explaining away virtually anything.
It's funny, but like you I had a dream several months ago where my dad's DC was trying to get me lucid and literally kept saying, "You're dreaming right now." And I just kept blowing him off, thinking he was pestering me to get more sleep.
Good luck! Let us know how the dream incubation goal goes. This is a skill I'd like to have but just haven't developed well at all.
