What exactly is a dream guide? What function(s) does/do a dream guide serve?

I did a general search on the subject, but didn't find much help. And yet I see people mentioning these things all over the forums.

What exactly are they? What are they for? In my opinion, it sounds kind of . . . useless. Care to share some experience?

A Dream Guide is essentially a dream character or some manifestation in your dreams that can help you in any number of areas of dreaming, be that exploring one's own mind or helping with dream control, etc. I have no experience, so all I can offer is hearsay, but there are some who believe that DGs can be either from one's self or something external that "visits" one's dreams, so to speak. Others believe it's just a manifestation of one's mind. Some take a more spiritual view of who/what DGs are, and others don't. It just depends on what point of view you're looking from.

Now, as far as the DV DG program, our job is to make new members feel welcome, offer answers and/or opinions to dream and LD-related questions, and in general be available to help out when members are stuck.

Oh, ha! I was definitely referring to the dream guides of dreams, not of Dreamviews.

But thanks for the information, Amethyst Star! It's an interesting concept, I just wasn't sure what they are for. But the way you put it, it sounds kind of cool.

If a man believes his dream is his reality when he wakes up is this now his dream or does he believe he hadn't been dreaming at all?

Typically, as I understand it, people turn to dream guides for advice about problems they face in waking life, or for assistance in their dreams or lucid dreaming efforts. Really, (keep in mind this is it as I understand it based on why I've been told by others), they are just what their name implies, a guide one can turn to for advice or wisdom. As for what exactly they are, nobody's really sure. Some say they're a manifestation of your subconcious mind, or a direct link to it. Others believe it is an outside entity, such as a spirit guide, Whig is contacted through dreams.

Wait untill someone who has been in contact with a dream guide to post a reply, they'll give you some good info I'm sure.

I dont think there's any reason to only have one dream guide, it could be any dc at any time. Or you may not have one at all. Its just a dc you form an attachment with.

Wow, that actually sounds really cool. It's like talking to yourself! Who better to have deep, meaningful talks with than your subconscious?

A dream guide is your spirit guide (as some people say.) I found mine, she's a girl with brown messy hair and she's pretty hot. I saw her in one dream, but heard her voice in others. I hope to see her again one day. Well, what my DG did was teach me to use my dream powers. That and a few conversations. That's what she did in my dreams. Hope this helps.

I think I also found my DG... I often feel his presence in my dreams - of someone familiar but unidentified. Before joining DV I didn't even know something like that existed. I haven't really talked to him yet or even clearly seen him, as I just had my first LD. But he is there to help me in my dreams, sometimes by just being close by giving me confidence, sometimes by asking things of me that I can't do in real life.
I see him as my support by exploring my dreamworld and learning new things in it. But what the others said sounds interesting and so I am looking forward to getting to know him better.
