      Close to lucidity???

I haven't remembered my dreams for about 10 years. I decided to start trying to lucid dream (I have tried before). Every night for about 2 years i have listened to my rock because it helps me fall asleep. So on the second night i planned to try lucid dream, i put my earphones on and after about 10 minutes i was half awake; half asleep. I remembered the 5 or so dreams i always used to get 10 years ago, i knew they were dreams/nightmares but they still were vivid, i woke up this morning and i forgot them all, but i remember experiencing them. I have never been able to remember what they were about but that they were there.

I wasn't asleep but i was fully aware of them. Is this anything other than the usual dream considering i have never remembered my dreams? And I had another dream afterwards which i fully remember and wrote down. . .

      Thanks

Unless you make a conscious effort to remember dreams, you're unlikely to remember them. After each REM cycle, we wake up briefly -- even if we don't then remember waking up the next day -- and usually return straight back to a lighter state of sleep. So, you may remember having had the dreams the night before but not any of the content.

A mantra can help you to remember to wake up more after your REM cycles giving you the chance to write down your dreams or simply make the conscious effort to commit them to memory.

You might have had a lucid dream and not remembered it. Or you might have just had some regular dreams that you remember having but not what they were about. The only way to know is to work on your recall.

      Hope that helps.

Thanks a lot, but the funny thing was i don't believe i was fully asleep because i knew what was going on around me. And even before trying to dream recall, i have always woken up at 2 in the morning for a long time. Yep every morning at 2. It must have been the end of my REM cycle??? It's never been intentional and only since i started trying to recall it's stopped because now i wake at about 4, which is 1,5 hours before my normal waking time. which reminds me of the CAT technique even though i don't set an alarm. It's very useful for my dream recalling so i'm not complaining =) .

      Thank you very much

First off, I wanted to welcome you to DV. I see you've made a few posts here already, but I wanted to say hello and let you know that if there's anything we can do for you here at DV, let us know. If there's something you're having trouble finding or if there's something about DV that's confusing you, feel free to contact any of us Dream Guides (the guys and gals with the green names) and we'll do our best to point you in the right direction.

Well, congratulations on the jump in your recall That stinks when you can't recall dreams in the morning that you had during the night. If you really want to start building your recall, write down your dreams in the middle of the night as well, at least a summary of them if not the whole thing. I don't know for certain if you were close to lucidity, persay, but in this case I'd say the best judge would be you. An LD is simply one where you know that you're dreaming. If that was the case, you were lucid. In my opinion, it sounds like you were aware that you were close to falling/being asleep, so in a way I'd consider that being close to becoming lucid.

Thanks for the welcome. The forum is great. And last night I woke up 4 times but I only vaguely remembered the first one, the other three were gone as I woke. It's very frustrating. And my first one took place on Dream Views, I must have been very stupid to not realise the text was weird since I was looking at this post in my sleep.:-S

I hate when that happens. I remember one time where I tried to WILD in a dream and was unsuccessful, but the thought that I was dreaming didn't cross my mind at all. So yah, you're not alone in that sense.

That sounds crazy. Trying a WILD in a dream, haha I gotta try it. Maybe it can be used as means of practice? And are you by any chance adopting? Because after my two weeks i'll be looking to be adopted.
