      First Post, A Few Questions

New to this forum, trying to get involved. Read over some basic stuff, the FAQ and intro guides on the internet. I have very good dream recall, and have had some lucid dreams, more a few years ago than recently, but a change in my life has me interested in pursuing LD as a possible solution to answering some questions.

Anyways a few things I haven't seen addressed:

Falling asleep with music/TV on. what effect does this have, what kind of external environment do you need?

Taking sleep aids, I take melatonin some nights when I can't sleep. I feel like it enhances my dreams but have never had a lucid dream or anything close while on it.

Smoking weed before bed, what effect will this have?

Like I said sorry if any of the questions are dumb, just trying to answer some self-relevant questions that have an effect on me.

      Thanks in advance

I would imagine it would be best to be sleeping with little outside distractions if possible. But if it helps you get to sleep and/or stay asleep then keep doing it.

Taking sleep aids, I take melatonin some nights when I can't sleep. I feel like it enhances my dreams but have never had a lucid dream or anything close while on it.
I take melatonin and valerian root extract to help me sleep. I notice on the nights I take this I have more vivid dreams.

Going to bed under the influence will impair your dream recall. I haven't smoked herb since I got back into dreaming, but I have smoked the JWH series a couple of times throughout the day and didn't notice any impairment on dreams.

However, when I used to smoke herb a lot I don't recall ever remembering very many dreams. I would be interested to see the outcome of doing a WILD while high though...

Depends on what you're like, really. If you're going to WILD, those things could be very distracting and either cross over into your dreams... or just keep you awake in general.

But some people like to use music as an external dream sign. "Oh, there's the song I fell asleep listening to! I'm dreaming!"

Taking sleep aids, I take melatonin some nights when I can't sleep. I feel like it enhances my dreams but have never had a lucid dream or anything close while on it.
Melatonin is a REM- suppressant. But it also causes REM-rebound as the night progresses, which leads to very vivid dreams! It seems like most people experience more vivid dreams, which could lead to recognizing you're dreaming.

From what I've read, I think it leads to vivid or crazy dreams, but kicks the crap out of being able to recall them.
