      First post! (+some questions)

      Hi everyone

I first heard of lucid dreaming four years ago, but got freaked out when I heard about sleep paralysis so I decided not to try to get lucid (I was twelve years old). Not for now, at least

Now, three months ago, I found this site from a link someone posted on another forum and
I've been trying to get lucid dreams for three months now with no luck.

The closest I have been was when I for the first time seriously tried the WILD technique. After counting my breath for some time I started hearing what sounded like an VCR fast-forwarding, a buzzing sound. I then started seeing scrambled blocks, much like when you are fast-forwarding an VCR this time to. But I got to excited and woke up.

I have also tried the finger induced lucid dream technique by Hargart and it actually worked once. I lied in my bed 'drumming' with my fingers and I did the nose RC and it worked, but I opened my 'dream eyes' to fast and lost lucidity, but the dream continued.

Okay, time for some questions I have:

      1. I am a very light sleeper, does this affect my chances of having a lucid dream?

      2. When I'm trying to WILD and counting my breathing my thoughts start to drift away and before I know it I'm thinking about something else. Is there any other way then to count your breathing to stay focused that you can recommend?

      Thanks!

      Hey there Chris, and welcome!

You might want to try some different techniques. WILD is generally the most difficult method, and I've never had much luck with it. My best results have come from MILD and WBTB.

I don't think so. I tend to be a light sleeper also, and I have been pretty successful learning to LD -- actually I had a few naturally since I was a kid before I knew what they were, but since finding DV and learning the induction techniques, I've had many, many more.

I don't really have an answer for your other question, since I haven't worked a whole lot on WILD -- but I'm sure someone else will have a suggestion.

Ya I agree with Hawk, I'm a light sleeper like my mom and she never remebers any dreams, but I do I don't think it makes any differnt for deep sleepers ethier, because the other 2 of my family are deep sleepers and only one remebers thiers dreams. And cool that the nose techique works for you doesn't for me

Well, I generally don't have a problem with that anymore. I meditate most days now, and I can stay focused on one certain thing fairly long. Find a few minutes from your day to count your breathing.

One thing I've been doing was to picture a blue sky (cartoonish, not too detailed), with a couple of clouds and a hot air balloon. If I find out that some random thoughts have entered my mind, I imagine it floating away in the hot air balloon. Another balloon appears to replace the one that floated away.

Thanks for the welcome and all the tips!

Last night before falling asleep I thought of different things to think about when atempting to stay focused while WILDing and I decided to try to imagine I was walking around in a museum looking at stuff and, hey, it worked! Well, almost...
I started to see flashes and my body started shaking (or so it felt). Then suddenly a door appeared in my vision and just as I was about to enter it my little brother sneezed and woke me up.

Well, I'm getting closer and next time I will be using my earplugs.

TyrgHawk: Thanks, but I think I'm going to stick with WILD because that's the only technique that has given results.[/quote]
