I've only just realised what my dreams are.

I've been having lucid dreams for 2 years or so? I had know idea what they were until 2 weeks ago, when at a festival i attending a work shop about lucid dreaming.
I know i shouldn't complain, but i want them to stop so much. If i lucid dream at night i wake up in the morning feeling restless, extremely tired and confused. At first they felt like a novelty and enjoyable, now they just wear me out and i can't make them stop.

The main problem seems to be my lack of control over the dream, i know i'm dreaming and none of it is real, but i don't manage to take control over what is going on, most of these dreams are not enjoyable.

I also find it a massive challenge trying to leave the dream and get some 'real sleep/rest', and usually even if i do manage to snap out of it, when i fall back to sleep again I fall straight back into LDing.

I know i've probably come to the wrong place to complain but they're really starting to get to me. Anyone got any advice? Thank you so much

Edit: Incase it is relevant the first LD i remember having was after a night out and i fell asleep drunk. Several times since then alcohol or weed seems to induce extremely long and harder to control lucid dreams.

Unless you have a serious sleep disorder (which is possible) lucid dreams shouldn't interfere with your nightly rest. Your body is pretty good at balancing itself when it comes to sleep. Worst case scenario, you have some sort of imbalance which is causing you to get too much dream sleep, and not enough deep sleep. If this is the case, the lucid dreams are a side effect of whatever else is happening. They are not the cause.

Do you snore, or have trouble breathing at night? Sleep apnea is extremely common. It can cause you to wake up repeatedly throughout the night, keeping you from entering into a deep restful sleep. It might be worth visiting a sleep specialist.

I'm only pointing this out so you won't stress about it and grow to hate dreaming. If you find the dreams upsetting, try learning a little basic dream control like the sort outlined in this tutorial: (http://www.dreamviews.com/f25/dream-...utorial-74872/) Everyone has extremely upsetting dreams (even nightmares) every night. I can't see why lucid dreams would be more upsetting than normal ones.

I don't snore or have trouble breathing, i'm not sure if it could be relevant (probably not.), but i grind my teeth apparently.

I don't wake up usually in the night unless I force myself to leave my dream and wake up. It usually happens by me forcing my body to sit upright while i'm in bed, by thinking about it hard enough in the dream - if that makes sense?

I don't want to hate the dreams, i used to really enjoy them. I think it's more the lack of sleep i associate with them that is bothering me the most. Infact i would really like to explore them more, once i hopefully get past whatever is making me tired all the time

Thanks for the quick reply, I'm hoping tonight's sleep will be a good one!

If you have trouble controlling them, I'd say a good place to start would be there. Perhaps the reason you feel restless when you wake up is because your dreams are so out of control, so the process of trying to get out of them puts a lot of stress on your mind. I'm sure if you were able to direct the dreams and truly enjoy them, your sleep would be much more enjoyable. It's probably similar to someone who suffers from nightmares. The dreams themselves aren't what cause a bad sleep, it's the stress created from them. Robot Butler is right, lucid dreaming in itself shouldn't cause restlessness.
