      What was I doing wrong?

So this morning I woke up and remembered that it was possible to LD after waking up so I got in a comfortable position and laid still. The first attempt my body went kinda went numb but I wasn't sure if it was SP. I laid their for a few minutes about to dream but every time a dream would come up my mind would become more alert and everything would get brighter. So I decided to move to try again.
The second time I tried after a few minutes my body felt slightly like it was falling. I was almost sure this was SP but it just didn't seem as 'strong' as everyone describes it and there was no other stimuli like 'rushing sounds'. So just to be safe I continued to lay still. Once again I was drifting in and out of dreams but none of them got to a dream state because my mind would be like 'Ok here comes a dream don't fall asleep' and then everything would get bright (like I would see through my eyes). Then I fell asleep sort of because I was dreaming but I wasn't lucid and was pretty much asleep but then I woke up because I felt my body falling again but this time it was pretty strong and hard to miss (it was still the only stimuli though.) After I was done falling though I didn't feel any different. So I continued to lay there thinking that maybe a dream would come and I would be able to 'step in it' but after about 10 minutes I thought I might try a RC. I tried sticking my finger through my hand and I couldn't and I tried breathing while closing my nose but I couldn't.
So what was I doing that wouldn't allow me to dream and was I really in SP?
