Hi there and welcome to the site!

How long it takes to "master" lucid dreaming really depends on the individual. Like anything you can't master it overnight (unless you're unusually gifted, I suppose).

I would suggest starting a dream journal and having at least 12 entries before you start trying the lucid dream induction techniques. This is especially important because if you DO end up having a lucid dream, you may not be able to remember it! Dream Recall is very important!

Good luck! Feel free to pm me, or ask any questions here about the site and/or lucid/dreaming.

      Again, welcome to DV!

Yes, you'll probably want to commit at least a month to practicing dream recall with a dream journal and induction techniques. In that month, you may or may not have a lucid dream, and that's OK. Stay calm and committed. You will surely improve your recall and your sleep will improve, so the time is well-spent. It will lay the groundwork for understanding your dreams and trying induction techniques.

And to be a master? Well, I've been at it about 6 months and I'm far from a master. But I'm confident with my progress.

I am sure about illusion. I am not so sure about reality.
