      My first trial lucid experience

      Hi everyone,

To be honest I never thought I could do it. I'd heard of lucid dreaming before, but my dreams were just sooo freaking weird and I never ever questioned what was wrong with it, until I'd wake up and think "Why the hell didn't I think of it back then?"

That said, I first visited this forum last night. I read a few posts, and just quickly glazed over the article about how to get into a lucid state of mind. Before going to bed last night, I kept saying to myself "I will be aware that I'm dreaming." As I started to doze off it got harder to keep reminding myself of that, so I just kept saying "I am dreaming. I am dreaming."

Well, turns out I was able to go lucid. It was short lived though. I didn't write down everything this morning so my memory is shady, but I remember at one point in my dream I realized it was a dream. Because it was such a shock, I jolted and woke up...or so I thought. The sun was coming down into my room, but my alarm clock hadn't gone off yet so I was pissed but I figured okay I'll try doing this lucid thing again until I have to get up. Well, not realizing I was still dreaming I attempted to fall asleep but forgot to repeat the words "I am dreaming I am dreaming", so I drifted off again but wasn't able to go lucid after that.

I woke up for real in the morning, and it was still dark outside. I have a bad habit of waking up right before my alarm clock goes off so I didn't bother trying to sleep again, but I was so confused initially because I thought I slept right through the day and into the night

I've been reading some posts about reality checks, and to be honest I'm not sure how to do that after the experience I had. Maybe tonight will be different, but I honestly thought I was waking up from my dream, so it didn't occur to me to even try to question the reality of it.

Thoughts? I've already randomly gone through reality checks throughout the day, so I hope tonight will be even better. Anyway, just thought I'd share. I'll be here atleast for a little while for some reading.

You, for sure, had a False Awakening. Since you were caught in one, I recommend that you do reality checks everytime you go to bed/wake up, just one each time is enough.

Congratulations on your first lucid, I hope you keep practicing and don't give up easly like most do.

      Welcome.

      Hey, welcome to DV!

I would suggest doing reality checks during your waking life. I'm confused as to what you're confused about with them, but please feel free to ask specifying what it is!

Congratulations on your first LD and I look forward to seeing you around the forums!!

      Thanks for the welcomes!

About the whole confused thing, I just wasn't sure how to handle the "false awakening" thing....never knew it happens so often there's actually a term for it though

Anyway, one thing I wanted to mention is that my dreams are normally so chaotic, but the nice thing about them is that they're long, and it's like watching a movie because it's so unpredictable. But the experiences I've been reading on the forums here make it sound like lucid dreaming is a risk you put yourself at in terms of waking up prematurely. Is this true?
