      I believe I..

Hi, there! I'm new here, been following the website for a while though.

I'm Jeff and I'm from England.
So, last night, I believe I had my first Lucid Dream - I woke up, then went back to sleep, and when I went back to sleep, I remember telling myself; this is a dream, I was walking in a car park, that was fenced up, but the floor was covered in sand and dust. I closed my eyes and chose a location which I cannot remember, all I do remember is feeling my body lock up, which caused my dream to fade away, and me to wake up.

I remember waking up and thinking to myself, and telling myself I know how to gain this. But now I cannot remember how. It was a strange but amazing experience and I'd love to do this again, but I'm not sure how.

      Hi Jeff! Welcome to DV!!!!

Congratulations on your first lucid dream! That is incredibly exciting! Bravo!

It seems to me you need to work on your dream recall. Do you keep a dream journal? I'd be more than happy to tell you about all the wonderful benefits of one if you don't know already

Please feel free to send me a PM or post here with any questions, I'd be more than happy to answer them! Good luck, hope you have many more LD's!

Hey there! Thanks a lot. I do not keep a dream journal at this point in time, but it does seem rather interesting - could you please explain a little bit more when you have some time? Once again, thanks a lot, your post makes me feel at home.

      Of course!

So, at first remembering your dreams will probably be very very difficult. Don't get discouraged. For me, when I first started keeping a DJ, my entries would be things like, "I felt like there was something I had to get, I have no idea if I got it," or "There was an image of a green apple on a silver platter that may or may not have red cushions under it." Even if you write down a sentence about how you feel. Over time this will increase your dream recall.

What happens, is our brains have almost like... built in dream-erasers. As soon as you move from your sleeping position in bed, most people will forget their dreams. Try to stay still when you wake up and just focus on where you were, what you saw, what you did, what was happening, what you felt, etc. Try to absorb it and put it into words.

      Benefits:

Increased dream recall! Yay! I normally suggest that you don't attempt lucid dream induction techniques until you've got a solid week or two of dream journaling under your belt. Up to you though.

Dream signs! Yay! Dream signs are things that appear in your dreams often. Say you always see the color red, or you always see lakes. You can make a list of the things that appear in your dreams most often and perform reality checks when they appear in waking life! The goal is that if you do this enough, you will do one while dreaming, thus waking you up inside of your dream (let me know if you need info on reality checks)

Thanks a lot! I've just posted for the first time, with more explaining and little parts that didn't quite add up, that I tried putting together.
