      New guy...Hello.

      Hi Everyone,
I stumbled across this community while researching a link between melatonin use and vivid dreams. I was finding that the melatonin I take a few times a week increases rem sleep and decreases the period between rem sleep and waking. This is allowing me to better recall my dreams. Then I began reading about lucidity and skimming over some of the journals here. Lucid dreaming interests me, because most of my dreams are either odd or bad, but not usually of nightmare intensity.

So now I've registered as a member, I want to attempt to take control of my dreams. I practice Zen meditation, so I believe I have a grasp of the relationship between my mind and the world and that this will help.

I've already begun writing down what I remember from last night (although it was only two things), and I'll be studying some tutorials to get started. If anyone has any helpful advice, I'd like to hear it.

      Wish me luck,
      -Joe

Good luck, Joe! It can be a frustrating task, trying to take control of your dreams, and i'll tell you right now you'll get easily distracted once you get there. Don't give up, and we'll be interested in hearing about your progress.

Hey Jvail! Welcome to the forums, glad to have you aboard! It looks like you are going down the right track, keeping a dream journal, delving into the tutorials, good stuff. I suggest that you start with the DILD tutorial, as it is the most basic and simplest of methods to gain a lucid dream. Albeit it is quite unpredictable.

The main thing I would say is don't give up, try to stay inspired (plenty of interesting things here to re-inspire you if you do get 'tired'), and have patience! Some people have lucid dreams easily and start off within the first week, while others (like myself) take over a year to start having LD's. If you ever start getting discouraged, drop by good 'ol Dream Views for some encouragement. Good luck with learning how to lucid dream!
