      Finally!

I realized I did this in the wrong forum so I'm reposting it here. The other thread is in "Lucid Dreaming Discussion" I believe. It can be deleted.

So I've been trying since I joined this forum to attain my first LD. I stuck to the regiment most people put on here for learning how to DILD. I bought LaBerges book and read it and did everything by the book. I kept a DJ as religiously as I do anything.

And I gave up and for the last four months I've spared little to no thoughts for LDing. I kind of pushed it out of my head. Until this morning.

I was dreaming I was walking down a hallway in school with a friend of mine that had passed away. I must have realized that's impossible and I yelled out, volunteerily (I remember thinking to say it), "I'm dreaming!" and immediately I did a nose pinch reality check. It was the weirdest feeling I've ever had. I could breathe through my pinched nose and closed mouth. That feeling alone, something impossible to replicate in waking life, was worth all of the work and desire.

But I wanted more and I knew I was getting ridiculously excited. There was this weird duality where I could feel my real life hands and body and I felt that it was numb but I was literally shaking in my dream body with excitement. I decided that I needed to stabilize the dream so I tried to rub my hands (And I'm amazed I even remembered to to do this) but everything seemed like it was moving in slow motion. So I gave up on that and tried to fly and that too felt like I was swimming against the current and under water. Everything was so slow. And then I must have fallen back into the dream because that's all I remember.

And the craziest thing of this all? I didn't even REMEMBER I had a lucid dream until I was halfway to school. I almost swerved on the road with the sudden complete vivid memory and it totally changed my mood and my day. I feel better than I have in a long time.

It's unreal. It really is. I used to always ask questions on this forum like: "How does it feel? Do you remember it in real time?" And that's really hard to answer because I now know how it feels. It's just an otherworldly ethereal feeling.

So I'm really excited. I'm hoping this opens the floodgates and makes it easy for me. But the only thing I'm worried about is that this was a random DILD. I did no exercises for it. I haven't even been doing reality checks. Should I get back on a regiment?

Good luck! I tried for almost 7 months before it happened but it was so worth it. Don't stress yourself about it and work towards it like you would any other hobby you have passion for! LDing was like closing my eyes in our world and waking up in a whole new one. Awe inspiring and life altering.

yeah i know I think I had one long time ago. Stole a police car, no consequences, cause it's a dream! anyway, I feel I'm close. At least it felt like it in the dream. Read my last dream journal entry, I think I was at the thought of being dreaming, but stopped it at that. I'm not rushing, just keeping on dreaming!

      Question

Congratulations man, glad to see another person to have their first LD.

While it took me only a week to have my first LD, I count myself lucky but know even if it did take 7 months it would still be worth the experience.

Now you know what it's like though, and a whole new world of possibilities is opened up. So have fun and good luck!

Well done, and it really is a fantastic feeling. The nose pinch is just weird, feels like the air is just curving round your fingers. But yeah, you should try and get back into the regime, and keep your mind focused on Lucid dreaming. Also you should experiment with different methods. You might have been following the typical method that just doesn't work for you, but works wonders for other people.

Problem for me is, when my dream fades, the visual fades first, and I often completely forget what I was doing in the dream, although still realise I'm dreaming. If I'm pretty honest though, I do quite enjoy waking straight from a dream, feels pretty cool, and I feel really awake.

Yeah, when you reality check and it fails? Great feeling. My first failed reality check (two weeks ago) was also a nose pinch and I was like "Hooooooleeeeee crap I'm dreaming. YES!" That was my first lucid dream in a long time. It felt awesome, as did killing hordes of monsters alongside a band of characters from a video game I'd been playing recently.

As for what to do now, what helped me get my second lucid dream last night was this advice: Every so often, whenever you remember, stop and examine your surroundings in detail. Look around. Does anything look strange? Is anything blurry or distorted? Do you hear any weird noises? Are the conversations you're having realistic in the context of who you share them with? And so on. If anything seems strange, reality check.

This helped me out because I remembered to do it when my family was shunning me for a crime they know I didn't commit. I was like "Wait, this isn't a realistic conversation. My family wouldn't do this to me." Then it hit me; I'm dreaming. After a moment of examining my surroundings and trying to stabilize the dream I started to feel the dream fade and my physical body in my bed though.

But more importantly, start a dream journal! You're lucky you remembered that dream at all, really. The next one may come and go and leave you with no memory of it, and you don't want that at all!

I remember you dakotahnok! You were a huge reason why I kept going. Your advice+success made me know it wasn't impossible for me .

I also have to cosign with Petee. As I lost the dream the first thing that went was visuals. It's really weird to me. I don't remember seeing ANYTHING after I became lucid. I was like a floating entity with no body but I had thoughts and I could still feel. It was like being awake and asleep at the same time while feeling both bodies. It's just so weird.

And GuyCecil: Congrats! It must feel good to finally have that feeling again. It felt unreal and awe inspiring to me mostly, I think, because it was my first one EVER! So even though I didn't last longer than probably 45 seconds, didn't do much, and didn't see much... The fact that I was in that world was just an eye opener.

I have to think that having done it now that it should be easier. We'll see though!

It really alters your world view doesn't it? Even just a little bit.

      It deffinitly is amazing.

Some people get it easier than others.

More lucids should be on the way. I'm glad it brought back your motivation.

      Good to hearni helped.

You know, seeing newbies (me not excluded) having their first lucid dream and getting all fired up is really inspiring. Thanks for sharing.

I would love to have a FA, man. But congratulations for getting your first LD. It's definitely an experience. Was it long? I'm excited again and I hope this keeps up because it would really kill me to feel how great an LD is and then never have one again.
