hi fellow dreamers! |
|
Welcome to DreamViews! I suggest browsing through the DreamViews Wiki, especially the tutorials section (there is also a link in my signature). This will give you a nice overview of all the different techniques and terms associated with lucid dreaming. I also strongly suggest starting a dream journal and reading up on RCs (reality checks). You should set up some reality checks for use in waking life. Fall asleep every night with confidence. Expect to become lucid every night and don't get discouraged. Learn from failures and always stay positive. Good luck to you and if you have any further questions, don't hesitate to ask! |

You will definitely still dream on 5-7 hours of sleep. The longer you sleep, the more dreams you will have to dream (obviously), but tons of sleep certainly isn't required. With all those lost hours of sleep, you will also get some pretty good REM rebound sleep. When this happens, you will hit your REM periods much earlier in the night. They will also be longer and more frequent during this time. |

Exactly! The more you sleep, the longer your REM gets. At the beginning of the night, it can be 5-10 mins long. After 8 hours, you get 45 mins long REM. |

kingyoshi - oh i see....cause im in highschool and i sleep at like 12 or 1 and wake up at 6 so i dont get much sleep so i always wondered if that affected my lucid dreaming....but what is REM sleep? and btw, i tried that "Actor's Technique" last night and i dont think it worked cause i only partially remember my dream but dont remember controlling it....but im gonna continue to try and see what happens. theres so much to know and learn on this website and its so hard to try and know everything :b but i will try my best! |
|
REM stands for Rapid Eye Movement. There are 5 stages of sleep and REM is the stage where most dreaming occurs. The actor's technique is like a booster. It will help increase your odds of LDing, but don't use only that. Continue to practice your other methods/techniques and use the actor's technique as a little extra juice each night. Try to really convince yourself and believe 100% in your mind that you will succeed. DOn't get discouraged if you fail, just stay confident. Learning everything will take some time. Don't try to rush anything. There are many many nights of opportunity ahead of you! |

ooooooh okay now i get it. and aite i will try and look for more techniques. but the craziest thing happened last night! i went to sleep at about 1 and woke up at 11:30, and many things happened during that time....before i went to bed, i did that actor technique and went to sleep and i had some dream. i forget what it was now, but i woke up in the middle of the night (dont know what time) but i automatically tried to remember where i had just lefted off in my dream (which i did |

Nice! Remembering the dream while you were in it is a very good sign. You were pretty close to becoming lucid there. Just keep practicing and working toward building that dream recall. Good luck to you and if you have any specific questions, don't hesitate to ask! |

haha oh really? haha dangit so close....and yeah ill keep workin on it! and i asked this question before but i dont think you answered, but for reality checks, do "totems" (from Inception lol) work? like for instance, the famous spinning top from the movie haha |
|
Oops must have forgotten about it. Yeah they definitely could work, but you have to be a bit careful with them. They will be more prone to failure than in the movie. If you were using the top for example, I have no doubt that it will spin forever in your dream if that is what you are expecting it to do. The problem is, if you are in a dream, but are leaning more toward the reality side (thinking it probably isn't a dream) then the top will likely fall over and you will miss a chance to become lucid. In actual dreams, these totems will, most of the time, perform as expected. If you expect it to fall,it will. If you expect it to spin forever, then it most likely will. If you do want to use a totem, I would always be sure to have a staple RC to use along with it. I would recommend the nose pinch RC. I actually have been meaning try out some totems in a lucid, but haven't got around to it yet. |

No problem! I'll try to remember to give the top a try in my next lucid and I'll let you know how it went. If I can remember to try it that is |
