      Possible lucid dream

Hi Everyone. I'm new to dream views and lucid dreaming, (discovered it about 4 days ago), and i have a question about a possible lucid dream I had.

A couple of days ago, I tried the WILD technique at about 5:00 in the morning. I experienced what was probably signs of SP (loud ringing sound in ears, hearing some voices and a slight tingling everywhere). After these stopped, I continued to lay motionless in bed.

After what felt like staying still for 10 min with nothing happening, I decided to do a reality check. (the one where you hold your nose and see if you can still breathe through it). I found I was able to breathe through my nose while holding it. Immediately after i did that, I heard the loud ringing sound I witnessed before in SP. This then stopped after about 5 seconds. (I assume this was the part where I woke from the possible dream, as I performed the same RC and found it didn't work).

      My questions are:

      1. Could i have been in a dream (false awakening dream) the whole time i was lying there after my SP?

      2. How long can people stay in a false awakenings without realizing there dreaming?

I hope someone could help me as it has been bugging me for the past couple of days. Thanks.

First of all, welcome to the forum Ok...

      1. You said you were lying there for 10 minutes, then did a reality check. If there was no noticeable change occurring somewhere in that time frame (and I'm assuming your eyes were closed), then yeah you were in a dream that whole time.

      2. You can stay there as long as the dream is. A lot of people actually think they've failed the WILD attempt and think they're awake when they're actually dreaming. It's good that you remembered to do an RC, otherwise you may not have gotten lucid. False awakenings are very common with WILDs, when you're lying on your bed in the dream, this called "seeing through your eyelids."

      Cool

Hello and welcome to Dreamiews, Dune!

You can trust your intuitive feelings about your observations. It would help, though, to perceive that all states--whether it's the waking state, dream state, LD state, AP/OOBE, etc.--are all just perceptions based on a particular vibrational focus of consciousness. All realities/states are composed of the same consciousness/energy, and are not clear-cut separate states as most people believe. There is no real separation in consciousness, only Oneness. Physical reality is also an interpretation of energy, through physical senses, just as dream reality is an interpretation, but through more subtle senses.

You had a "false awakening," which was an experience in the astral vibration, and it was also a type of "lucid dream." Dreams are interpretations of the astral vibration, like watching a movie that is based upon an astral experience. Everyone astrally projects, and most of the time we are unaware--on the human personality level--that we do so, and so the mind creates dreams as a way of giving us feedback of experiences we've had, but have forgotten. There are many people who believe, "Well, if I had a lucid dream or an out-of-body experience, I would remember it." This is not the case, because most people have "subconscious" fear-based beliefs that kick-in and prevent them from remembering vivid experiences from other "dimensions" upon awakening from sleep. (I have sometimes remembered hours later, or even a day or two later, that I had a particular lucid dream or astral projection experience, when some memory would surface.)

Your second question is a very interesting one, in considering how deceptive a false awakening can be. What's to say that right now, as you read this, that you are "awake?" People think that they awaken to "reality" when they awaken from sleep, but for most people their waking lives are just another form of "sleep" to awaken from. We do know this intuitively, which is why we write novels and make movies about it. A human being can be said to be a "soul" that dreams of physical existence, believing it only dreams when it goes to sleep. This is like a "dream within a dream." Great teachers such as the Buddha and Jesus were very aware of this play of consciousness, and how the mind plays very convincing tricks.

Just some ponderings. Big congratulations to you on your success and blessings on your journey, my friend.

      Peace
      Kar

Thanks everyone for the help. I also remembered counting 6 fingers on my hand so im now pretty sure it was a false awakening. This has really boosted my confidence of lucid dreaming.
