      CAN...NOT...RECALL...DREAMS...

hello. WTF! i cannot remember my freaking dreams! are you sure that everyone has dreams? i have tried everything. I keep a journal right by my bed and have my alarm set for 4:30am (6 hours after i go to sleep) i wake up and the last thing i remember is myself saying "i will remember my dreams..." I tried meditation, I tried going to bed early. I just cannot seem to remember my dreams is there anything i might be doing wrong? I am getting worried because want to have an LD SO BAD

You've been trying for what... one day?
Or is that how long you've been on the forum?
How long have you been trying?

you might just be trying too hard. calm down, pretty much anyone can learn to have lucid dreams it just takes a little time and effort. most people have one within a month of trying. you'll eventually have one, there's no rush, so relax about it...it helps.
when you first wake up, try not to move too much. just lay there and relax, keeping your eyes closed and try to recall your dream but don't force it. just let it come to you. if you get nothing, think of how you felt when you woke up. happy? sad? worried? emotions usually carry over a little from dreams when you wake up, so it may bring back a memory. if not, think of places you go to alot, people you know well and see often, things you've been wanting...things that are currently strong on your mind, or maybe think about everything that happened the previous day. those things usually appear in peoples dreams. if you get anything, anything at all, even just a feeling, write it down. go on about your day, but if you keep it on your mind, something around you might trigger a memory and you may remember part of your dream. just keep that up, and eventually you'll be recording whole dreams, even several a night.

My normal sleep pattern is to wake briefly after about 4 dreams a night. Since I've been keeping a dream journal and trying various techniques for lucid dreaming, I'm down to 1 dream a night, and not waking after my other dreams. I think I'm making my dreams suddenly shy.

You may be doing the same. I'm trying to back off mentally, take off the pressure, and not be forceful, and practice patience.

Have you ever recalled dreaming? Dana

I have always had fantastic dream recall but never yet achieved a Lucid. Well maybe, but that was a long time ago. I find that Defining a "Special Place" where no-one can disturb you, a place where you feel at one with yourself helps. Think of it as your Special Place.

DanaN, the same thing happened to me. Don't decide to back off altogether, that's the worst thing to do. Waking up 4 times in the night and writing a long dream journal was my problem.
Now i'm keeping the entries shorter.

Titus, Paperdoll is right. When you can grasp small things, they'll bring back bigger parts of the dream and you can try to remember what happened before, and keep going backwards through the night. If you try too hard and force it, you'll focus too much on forcing and will forget the dream. When you start out, remembering a dream won't be like you were just there and did it twenty minutes ago. If you wake up during the night and can remember the entire dream, write it down because you'll probably have forgetten most, if not all of it by the morning.

Just keep tryinig man. How bout when u wake up, ask yourself a couple of questions like: How do I feel? If u feel angry, scared or any other way it might have something to do with your dreams, like someone above said, the smallest thing can bring up the whole dream. You can then think about things more common to you, make your work place, school, friends, family and maybe one of those was in your dream and you´ll remember everything too. You can also ask yourself what the last thing you thought of before sleeping was. That too will most likely be present in your dreams.

Dont give up hope! I started with lousy dream recall and now I can recall like 4 to 5 dreams. Just keep trying and most importantly: BELIEVE YOU CAN.

Now now, dont fight kids. Just because he brought up the same point later and on the same forum does not make his point any less valid. Maybe he thought of it at the same time but is a slow typer.

I just wanna second paperdoll's tips there - they're exactly the same as I give to people who ask me for help on dream recall. That, and the dream journal.

So if you had any reservations about how well paper's tips work - they work great. Just try it and be patient
