      Question How to ....

So when I close my eyes at night I have no feeling that I dreamed, its like I close my eyes and just open them during the night when I need to change my sleeping position.

I wanna know how to dream and how to control them.

I have no idea how dreams are classified, are dreams the scenarios I construct whenever I want to ? ( like when I imagine a bowl of ice cream in a desert )
Or are dreams something that starts on its own ?

In the past I have experienced scenarios that my brain generates while I was asleep, it had quite a realistic feeling, but I have never been able to reconstruct this in any way.

Indeed, this is indeed the wrong place but that doesn't mean you shouldn't answer him. Mods will surely move it. Back to the topic.

Ayanami, you always dream. The problem is that, since dreams are stored in another section of the brain, you're not remembering them when you wake up. Before you worry about controlling dreams, you should work on being able to remember at least 1-2 a night. Most people start improving their dream recall by starting a Dream Journal. Every night, write down your thoughts from the day and before sleeping and after you wake up, write down any part of the dreams you had that you can remember and your thoughts on it.

      Good luck!

      Moved to Newbie Zone.

      Ayanami, welcome to DV!

As Caretaker said, you always dream while you're in REM sleep (which is every night unless something is wrong). Some people juts find it harder to remember their dreams, and some people don't remember them at all. I would suggest doing what Caretaker suggested; that is, start keeping a dream journal, and when you wake up, lie in bed and try to recall anything that you were just dreaming about. Until I came to DV, my recall was basically nothing. Every few months, I might wake up and remember like 30 seconds of a dream, or maybe just what a scene in a dream looked like, but after following the guides available here and asking questions etc, I recall at least something nearly every night.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask, and we will try to answer. You can also send me a private message if you prefer .

So I first need to start on memory, I know my short term memory sucks, but then again I can barley remember what happened 8 years ago.

Is there any tips to train my mind to wake up when a dream brings my mind out of the sleep state, I have read somewhere that as we sleep dreams are a process to wake us, the brain uses past experiences to stimulate other parts of the brain as if though I was touching something, it simulates the information that would have been sent by your nervous system.

And thax for the feedback, I really want to have a feeling of "Man that was a good dream" or "Crap, that was a scary dream", currently when I wake it is the next morning.

An Alarm works just fine. You should try setting it for 4 hours after you go to sleep at least. I've read that you can drink a couple glasses of water before sleeping and you'll wake up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom but I think an alarm is more reliable.

I'll see if I can train my brain to become more active a the sound of a alarm, and see if I can at least force a higher active state while I sleep and then the noise will wake me.
Well at least I can try, by the way Caretaker, how successful are you at dream control ?

Seeing as I've only had one LD, my advice on Dream Control might not be the best. Consider me a talking Wikipedia. I soak up info then relay it back to people who ask. I haven't even been here that long. Though, during my LD, I managed to change a bunch of bags of leafs to pillows.

Just thought I'd put it here since you were talking about dream control, that KingYoshi does a class on dream control in the DV Academy. He's a great teacher, and it's a good class for beginners who want to get better at dream control.

Also if your a pot smoker(points to self) then you will not remember your dreams if you smoke right before you goto bed. I had 0 dream recall up untill i desired LDing so i worked on my recall, took me like 2-3weeks to remember 1 dream anight, i got my LD then kinda fell off doing it for a bit, Decided i havent had enough lucid dreams so i started working on my recall again. WIthin 5 days i remember atleast 2 dreams anight.

      -Keep a DJ
-Write down anything you remember when u wake up in the night, that 1 small image you might remember was a dream image. Or if you dont remember an image just write down the way you felt when you woke from the dream, fusterated. etc.
-If you smoke marijuana do what i do and wait about 45 min b4 you goto bed afterward

you say your short term memory is crap, so that means your dream recall will be poor (just like me) i have started running my day backwards when i go to bed at night, this enhances the memory in real life so if you can learn to improve your memory while your awake it will come naturally when your asleep. ADA is really helpfull as well
