      Intro and some questions

Hello all, my name is Lyle. I have found out about lucid dreaming about 4 months ago, and found this site a about a week ago while using Google. My brother had gotten into it and I've been listening but not really trying anything too major. He had a few and they've lasted 10-30 seconds each (not entirely sure of techniques). I've had four, 1 DILD, 2 WILD, and 1 I'm not sure of. The last one was the most vivid and lasted the longest which is the tech I'm not sure of. It really sparked my interest in LD'ing. My brother had told me about "staring at one spot", which I did for about 30-45 minutes while trying to regularly sleep. Although how can I be sure of the time? I was suddenly pushed into a dream and was conscious of it. What is this method/technique? What is the success rate? Would this work better for say, a nap or WBTB? I have some more questions but I think they will be more appropriate for other forum topics.

Hey Lyle56! Although I can't tell you what technique that is I can say that I am impressed at how quickly you have progressed. I have been on and off again LDing for a few years now and haven't managed to tackle any of those techniques. Definitely don't quit. You have talent. =)

Thank you very much Shaelyn. I hope you get some great results too very soon, you deserve it for the effort.

Anyone is welcome to try and answer these questions, unless the info I gave is too vague perhaps. If anyone needs more info to help I'll be happy to answer any questions. I was poking around and found MILD. Maybe it was just a variation of this?

      Welcome to DV

regarding your questions, I find MILD is best to start. And other DILD methods.
WBTB is very good for beginners, naps, it depends. I rarely have/do remembered dreams in naps...so I don't use that.
The success rate is different for everyone, and there is no best technique because techniques work differently for different people.
Try and do WBTB, with whatever, reality checks, dream journals, mantras, etc. When starting out

Before you try anything on here, I would recommend you try and build on what already works for you. Just shifting to what people here tell you works might not be necessary or good for you. You have already had 4 so far, which is an admirable feat. There is no reason so far for you to change over to a tech on here, if your own efforts are enough.

If you don't have as much success with your own methods, then by all means, listen to the Dream guides on here, and what they have to say.

Thanks for the responses. Hearing from experienced dreamers gives me a better understanding of how I can make this work for me. Its already been working, so I will take Origami's advice and not change anything. I've also never had a dream during a nap, Erible, so I think it will be a horrible time for me to try any methods/techniques. I have a DJ in which I sketch past dreams and the night after I sketched some buildings from a dream I had the best lucid dream yet. I've been in a dry spell with no dreams for quite some time now, which is a little frustrating and what led me here. It may very well be stress and a cold I've had for some time now, so I'm going to wait until about a week after the cold is gone before I try anything different. Thanks again.

Yeah colds and pretty much anything that stops restful sleep messes with dreams. Dry spells only last a few days, unless they have a more serious cause, so don't worry.
