Hi, I'm Dave. I'm 21 and I'm a student studying Engineering. For quite some time now I have been able to detect that I am dreaming and subsequently control the rest of my dream for my own benefit. Until today I had never heard of 'lucid dreaming', a quick google search found this place and I was intrigued to find more people who can do the same.

My first lucid experience came when my dream entered an imaginary area in which it had previously experienced a nightmare, I recognised the place as being a place from my previous dream and this told me I must be dreaming. With that knowledge in place I assumed that as I had some level of conciousness I must be able to decide what happened in my dream. I was right.

While growing up I had a recurring image in my mind, a pair of bike pedals spinning below me, spinning too fast to get my feet back on them and slow the bike down. Every time I thought about it I would try and put my feet on the pedals and stop the bike but I simply couldn't. After a while I could slow the bike under huge concentration but still not stop it but a few years ago I finally managed to stop the bike and remove my feet without the wheels starting to spin up again. This was when I first started lucid dreaming. I assume the two are somehow related.

I still have that image in my mind from time to time and if I cannot stop the pedals I know I won't have control over my dreams until I get control over the pedals back. Today for example, I cannot stop them.

I've only mentioned this to one close friend before as it all sounded a little crazy to me so it's good to find other people with similar experiences to myself. I look forward to finding out more about lucid dreaming and dream control. My question to you though is this: am I a natural lucid dreamer?
