How does drinking lots of water before sleeping help your remember dreams

In the online tutorial on this site, they claim this, I have trouble with the alternative, waking up 3-4 times a night because I have school

It makes you wake up in a few hours because you have to go to the bathroom.

yes, it helps you wake up after REM cycles, naturally that is when your body would tell you to wake up because you have to go to the bathroom, and you remember your dreams best right after REM when you just had them.

You can accomplish the same thing by waking up in the middle of the night using an alarm clock, which you say you don't want to do. You could try doing it just once per night, after 6 hours would be best. Write down your dreams, it will only take a couple minutes to scribble down some notes, then go back to sleep and you'll barely miss any sleep.

Side note, doing a dream journal is better than REM water drinking.

Yes, but this is so you can WBTB at the right time and then write down your dreams.

This is also a great way to remember your dreams as it's fresh, only problem is when you want to DEILD and your not allowed to move, I forget alot of my previous dreams.

Native americans used to drink water the day before a great battle so they could awaken early to prepare. I learned that on the simpsons.
