Great to see someone who's another fan of science! The "champagne bottle boson" always did astound me.
I wish you great luck in your coming future, where I'm sure you'll find yourself instituting as many lucid dreams as you could like.
Let's see if I can take a crack at these questions really quick:
1) You probably just kept doing reality checks because you were amazed at the fact that you were dreaming. I was similar. I would constantly plug my nose and breathe, and do unusual things just to remind myself that I was dreaming. However, it could also be a totally different reason. If you were lucid, only you can really answer that question, though.
2) I've never had trouble talking, but I have had trouble punching. It's just a dream thing. It's something you can over-come with practice. The more lucid dreams you have, keep trying to do these things. Try different methods, be creative. You'll get it eventually. We all have set-backs in different areas, but as soon as we can put those things behind us, the lucid dreaming will become that much better. Think of it as a repertoire of skills that you work to increase the size of.
3) Your dream was simply fading away. Different people have different ways of keeping the reality of the dream intact. Many people like to rub their hands together. I did this last night, and I'm not certain that it really helped, however. Often times a great idea is to go and stimulate as many senses as possible, but don't get too lost in the moment or you may be distracted and forget you are dreaming. Smell things, touch things, pay close attention to what you see. Activate as many of your senses as you can!
4) Your dreams will get longer with time and practice. My first lucid dream was about 3 seconds long. They'll get longer. The one I had last night was about 5-ish minutes. It's all in the practice.
5) Studies show that the time that passes in dreams is relatively close, almost exactly, the same to the pace of time in real life, actually. A 2 minute dream, therefore, is going to be almost exactly as long in real time.
6) Yep. Same pace. (5)
Hope I helped!
