You don't have to have good recall to start a dream journal. Make a point of writing something in it every day, even if you don't remember anything. Just write the date, and something like, "I don't remember any dreams." The important thing is to make it a priority, so you start thinking about and remembering your dreams. This helps you avoid laziness, too. You have to write in your journal no matter how good or bad the dream was. It helps build good habits.
