      Hi! :)

Hey guys, my name is Havey and I have been extremely interested in learning how to dream lucidly for a very long time.

I was talking to a group of friends about a month ago outside one night and one of them brought up how he had taught himself to control his dreams and the way he sleeps, he began telling us these amazing stories and it really sparked an interest.

So I started on Google about a week ago and tried to find tips and tricks on how to do this, well I couldn't find any super solid advice then I found this website.

I know that being about to WILD seems really amazing, thats probably the one I would want to try the most, but since I have never actually became lucid, ever or entered SP I just want to have that feeling one time. Thats it, just once haha.

Anyways, the closest I have came, or at least felt like I came was the night before last.

I saw an article online where a guy said this:

Lay on your back, totally still with your hands by your side, keep your eyes closed and just relax, do this for around 20 minutes. After that time, you will maybe start to feel an itching sensation, but just ignore it to the best of your ability and keep staying relaxed, after a few minutes, you will feel a heavy feeling come across your body, and you can then open your eyes, when you do you will most likely be hallucination. This is normal, close your eyes again, you are now lucid dreaming.

I tried this, I would say I laid there for about 20 minutes and that heavy feeling kind of started to come over my body, and I had the itching sensation, then my leg wouldnt move and I stayed calm, then my other leg couldnt move so I thought, this might be it, I'm going to open my eyes, but I was awake.

      I was extremely discouraged.

I would love to just be able to do it! Hopefully I can with the help of this community

      Welcome!

Do you keep a DJ and practice RCs? It will be probably easier to achieve a DILD first. I had more then 40 DILDs before my first WILD. However everybody is different.

Do you practice WILD after 4+ hours of sleep? It is almost impossible to accomplish WILD when you go to bed for the first time on the night.
      DILD: 123 ; WILD: 10 ; DEILD: 9

If you felt the heavy feeling coming over you, it was probably the SP starting to work. If you try this another time, and get the feeling again, just ignore it and continue to stay calm. You'll now when the SP hit you, I'm sure. Just remember to STAY CALM when it does, and you'll soon enough be inside a dream, fully lucid. We have a own WILD forum here, be sure to check it out! here you can find and make your own threads with questions and thoughts about WILDing.

Oh, and by the way, welcome to DreamViews

Have you checked out any of the WILD guides in the wiki? Just lying still does not work for most people. There are a lot of little tricks you can do to coax yourself right to the edge of sleep without completely losing consciousness. Make sure your timing is right, also. You want to attempt it in the middle of the night, or early morning after about 4 or 5 hours of sleep.

Thanks for all of the helpful advice! Are there any good techniques for actually going Lucid when you sleep at night? I really don't have much time during my day to nap or anything, and I have read a lot that its usually a good time to try based on your REM cycle. Just wondering if there are any good techniques for when you first go to sleep at night?

There are really two kinds of induction for lucid dreams:

      1. Induction while dreaming
      2. Induction from a wakeful state

The first is pretty obvious, the later should be practiced either 1) after a few hours of sleep when your REM is long (4 1/2 or 6 hours is good), or afternoon nap.

If you don't like the idea of a DILD, check out the WILD, or my personal favorite the DEILD. There is a nice tutorial section with tutorials for each of these. HOWEVER, if you do a WILD or something along those lines, you can't do it before bed as it is close to impossible to enter the dream state, and if you do it is extremely short.

      A few fun facts:
      1. Your REM is when you have the most vivid dreams, though dreaming is also possible in stages 3 and 4.
      2. You have a REM cycle *roughly* every 90 minutes of sleep.
      3. Length of REM increases each cycle, starting at around 5 minutes and can reach up to close to an hour. This makes lucid dreaming much less plausible at earlier stages of sleep.

WILD is usually a hard technique, even for experienced Lucid Dreamers, so I don't recommend STARTING with it, but trying it later.

No matter what technique you start, you should learn a good reality check, and get in the habit of practicing it, as well as keep a dream journal. If you don't have much time to write in the morning, it isn't that hard to wake up a few minutes early. If you just don't like the idea of writing in a journal, keep a recording device handy or something. This helps amazingly well to increase how many dreams you recall, as well as how VIVID they are, which is very much desired with lucid dreams.

For you personally, I would recommend the DILD, or even the DEILD (as it doesn't require getting out of bed) combined with reality checks. With any luck, you should have a lucid dream within a few weeks. If you don't, don't get discouraged. It took me a little over a year to have my first Lucid.

Anyway, good luck with your Lucid Dreaming! Always feel free to ask more questions, and welcome to the forums!
