Welcome to the forum buddy.
Those random posts on Funnyjunk about lucid dreaming have opened up an entirely new world of extraordinary information to you, you will learn a lot about yourself while learning the art as your dreams play an important role in how your mind works thus how the world itself appears to you. If you're interested you may want to set yourself up a dream journal which is a record of all your dreams. You open it up in the morning and write down the dreams you had your previous night, or if you hate writing in the morning (like I do) you can jot down notes of key aspects of the dream and type it out later. A lot of people here including myself have set up their own threads purely to journal their own dreams, you can find them by clicking here. A dream journal will almost be your best friend for someone who has recently gained interested in lucid dreaming, as it will train your mind to remember more of your dreams which in-turn will make your dream journal all the more beautiful, not only that but your dreams will become more detailed and vivid thus eventually creating them into lucid experiences.
Something you may also want to do as a beginner is to make a habit of asking yourself if you're dreaming, here we call that reality checking. The reason we ask ourselves if we're dreaming on a habitual bases is that we carry habits on in dreams; everything we do at some point becomes part of our dreams, and we can train ourselves to ask if we're dreaming whilst inside a dream, and if you do that in the dream, chances are you will 'wake up' inside your own mind. To perform a simple reality check, look at your hands. What do they look like? How many fingers and thumbs do you have? In physical reality, we have one thumb and four fingers on each hand, but our brains cannot process that kind of information in our dreams, so what happens is that the dream will try and cover it up and make a bad job of it. For example your hands and arms may be invisible, or you will have no creases in your hands, or you may have a different number of fingers, but your subconscious is creative so your objective is just to check if your hands look alright to you. That is just one example of a reality check, another reality check is to make sure if your light is on. For some reason lights hardly ever work in our dreams, you will flick the switch and nothing will happen, simple as that. There are many other reality checks but those two are two very basic ones you can start with.
Have fun in the community, and like USA (sweet name by the way) said, you can ask anybody a question around here.
