      COMAS?/Negitive Side Effects.

Me and a friend are discussing dreams and becomeing lucid. We fear this cannot be natural and that there must be negitive side effects. I am an optimist, i think with proper balance nothing is that bad. I mean if you are lucid dreaming every night for more that a healthy amount of time each night this is obviously a very bad thing to do and could have very negitive side effects....DUH!!! but in moderation it would just be like watching some tv or drinking some beer...DUH!!!...moderation is the key
yet what if were wrong...has anyone ever fallen into comas or such thing from lucid dreaming....or had other negitive side effects
If so please post id like all the facts possible
My worst fear of all this is that i will become trapped in my own dream, which may not be that bad seeing as i would be able to do anything. And after awhile my family would wake me and i would be just dandy

As far as I know, the only possible negative side effect that can come from lucid dreaming is if you're so obsessed with it that your friends start to think you're weird, lol. It's just dreaming, it can't harm you.

      Haha. totally.

Anyways...lucid dreaming is completely harmless. Think about it. People dream every night anyway. Lucid dreaming is the same except you are actually aware and enjoying your dream. You aren't doing anything harmful and it's completely natural.

There are some members here who have been LDing their whole lives maybe they can tell you a bit more. But as for me, I think they are awesome and I'd never stop trying to be lucid. Nothing compares. I think as long as you have a good balance of lucids and non-lucids then you are good. Sometimes it's better to not be lucid b/c the subconscious needs to speak with you through your dreams...so that's the only bad thing I would ever see from being lucid every single time you sleep.

      Welcome!

The only negative side effect I can think of is that you may lose some sleep. For instance, if you want to boost your REM by waking up early for an hour or so, and then making it up in sleep (sleeping in an hour), you're mostly sacrificing delta sleep for REM sleep, which MAY be negative if you exercise a lot and your body really needs that delta to recover (that's when growth hormones and such are released).

      I guess there could be.
I heard about getting shot in a dream, then waking up in pain. Maybe, if you were killed in a dream, and believed you would die from whatever happened, your heart would stop in real life. Making marks on real things, it's like tapping into the supernatural, if it's true of course.
Sleeping so much only to lucid dream.
      Obession.

Comas are induced by brain-damage, and your heart cannot stop because you "think" you have died in a dream. Your heart is controlled as an involuntary process, thus you cannot consciously stop it, whether in a dream or otherwise.

i believe what replicon said makes a LOT of sense. other than that i dont think anything else bad could happen.

if you think about it lucid dreaming is not TRULY a natural thing in nature, but being very smart animals we figured out how to trick nature. cool huh, i doubt any other beasts could do that.

plus people do sometimes have LDs on accident without knowing or trying to. so it cant be all THAT bad in nature
