      Question New user + question

      Hey guys!
First of all I registered on this site because I'm interested in Lucid dreaming although I have never been aware that I'm dreaming. I want to experience it. I found out about Lucid dreaming probably last summer just after watching The Inception. I tried a few times writing my dreams but I was too lazy to do it at night after waking after a dream and I wouldn't remember my dreams in the morning. Later I found out about that Sleep paralysis and read that you can get in a Lucid dream just laying on your back and not thinking about anything just concentrating on breathing just like meditation. I tried this a few times but didn't succeed. I think I was pretty close to it cause one time I experienced some strange feelings and visions that lasted for a minute or something.
This time I decided to seriously write a dream journal after finding out about this site. I even dowloaded a dream journal app. So I want to ask will I be able to succeed in Lucid dreaming just by writing in a dream journal and maybe using that reality check?

Both are good places to start. You need to understand tho that LDing is going to take a while to learn and its gonna take more than just a dream journal app and doing reality tests now and then. You will be able to learn just you have to think of it like learning a language or something, you have to focus and work on it.

I'm gonna cut and paste some advice I gave in another thread, hopefully this'll help

These two books are the best place to get started:

The classic: ETWOLD by Stephen LaBerge
Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming: Stephen LaBerge, Howard Rheingold: 9780345374103: Amazon.com: Books

And to bring you up to date with all the modern stuff and loads of information this is great: AYD by Daniel Love
Are You Dreaming?: Exploring Lucid Dreams: A Comprehensive Guide: Daniel Love: 9780957497702: Amazon.com: Books

For youtube videos this channel is good
      Stephen Berlin - YouTube

Best advice I can give is to read as much as possible and talk to people who've been doing it a long time. Good luck!

Good points. It is nice to see you active sandman.

Reading those books will give you the perfect base knowledge you need and know exactly what you are getting into. I would recommend working on dream recall while reading these and then pick a technique or so to try. Do your best! If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

Thanks I really apprecciate your help but I don't think I'm going to read any books since I'm not into reading, don't have much time and I'm saving money. However thanks for the youtube channel, I'll definitely check that out.

That's a shame because 99.9% of everything you'll ever need to learn about anything requires some kind of reading including everything you read in this forum or anywhere else on the internet!!! Videos are good but never have as much information. Try and keep an open mind about reading if you can. Good luck with saving tho.

True. The average person speaks at 110 or so wpm (words per minute) so that is the fastest you can listen, cant get any better. Average person reads like 250-300 wpm almost 3 times faster just for reading information instead of listening. Also you can get a book that will teach you how to speed read, this get people to places reaching 2000 or 3000. I have only gotten up to 1200 wpm because of lack of practice. I would recommend making reading something you do. It is the #1 way of learning.

It's not like I'm not reading at all. I am studying so of course I have to read and if I had more time I probably would read some kind of book but it would be fiction.
Also I bet very few people here have read those books about Lucid dreaming.

Didn't mean to be mean. No offence meant. ETWOLD talks about the amount of time it takes to learn to LD. Very few can just try for a few days and just LD forever. It is kind of a learning endeavor that you will be undertaking. You can just DJ and RC, but they won't work unless you are doing them right, so make sure you research them before starting. Practice doesn't always make perfect. But it will make permanent. So don't start till you know what you are doing. good luck.

I'm new here too so I can't say I know a lot. I've only joined today and I'm feeling things out. I've had lucid dreams in the past and read a lot of books to try to enjoy them more often. There is one technique I'll throw out there that's super simple and may or may not help. Throughout the day stop and seriously ask yourself if your really dreaming. I know it sounds silly, but the idea behind it is that if you think about it often enough during the day, and seriously consider it, then you might bring that idea into your dreams and consider it there. I've actually considered it in a dream and concluded that I wasn't dreaming (ha!) so it doesn't always help, but it has worked for me in the past. The book I read even suggested pulling your finger or something along those lines to prove whether or not you're dreaming. It was actually the finger pulling that proved it for me one time (believe it or not). I really didn't think I was dreaming, but I asked myself the question (as I did during the day) and pulled my finger...and it stretched! So, it was hard to deny I was dreaming at that point This only happened the one time for me, so I'm not sure how much success other people have with it, but it could be worth a try. I haven't practiced in quite some time, but I'm hoping to get back into it all (which is why I'm here).
My only other suggestion is that, even if you don't want to write out your dreams, once you wake up try to remember every detail you can before you get out of bed so it's still fresh in your mind. Try to see any similarities in your dreams. If you do see similarities, try to think that whenever you encounter that again you'll ask yourself if you're dreaming. That way if it happens in your dream you might remember to ask yourself if your dreaming and begin a lucid dream.
      Good luck!
