      Melatonin

Has anyone here had success with this drug? I've had moderate success. I'd say so far about 95% of the time I take one 3mg tablet,I've remembered having a dream. My question is,if I up the dose, and say I take 3 or 4 before bedtime, how will it affect my dreaming? Will the dreams become more vivid and might I have better dream recall? I've read up on this drug and it doesn't seem to have any negative side effects so I was thinking of experimenting with higher doses and whatnot. What other drugs have you people tried and had success with? I've also heard of people mixing Valerian Root with Melatonin, anyone heard of this? Thanks.

You could also try adding L-Tryptophan, an amino acid, which is the precursor of serotonin. Serotonin then gets converted to melatonin in the pineal gland in the brain... You can take up to about 15 - 20 mg of melatonin, but generally these doses are reserved for cancer sufferers... err on the side of caution and take 10 mg supplemented with L-tryptophan...

Informative Shaman...thanks. I've also heard great things about B6?

You should try doing a search in the attaining lucidity section or of the entire forum for drugs + lucidity or Melatonin etc., because there is quite a bit of info about things you can take to enhance your chances of becoming lucid or more aware of your dreams.

Hey Platinum, welcome to the site.

Melatonin I have yet to try (if I try it at all).

I'd try sticking to the natural stuff and vitamins before going into the more "drug" category.

Here's a link to a combination (or "cocktail") that has worked for me numerous (but not every) times. This link is from another member who's been trying a different combination of the same idea.

Both are basically based on using the B6 vitamin along with some other "helpers". Magnesium is said to act like an enhancer for vitamin B, and Valerian is primarily a sleeping aid rather than a dream inducer (at least I think).

NOTE: There really is no drug or vitamin that will give you a lucid dream - the only thing this method can do is give you vivid dreams that merely give you the oportunity to become lucid. Also, too mch of anything is not good - even healthy vitamins.

Another thing, I've noticed that I get better results if I don't take the "cocktail" every night. I'll go to sleep clean for a few nights, then take the vitamin combo for a couple nights. Then off another few days, then back again.

      Good luck, man!

PS-- NE Ohio eh? Cool, I'm in C-Town myself. Too bad you weren't around last month when a few of us got together up at Mentor Headlands.

      ha, me too

I'm currently experimenting with melatonin, as well! I just started the other night. (My first melatonin dream is recorded in my dream journal)

Melatonin can have some side effects though, nightmares have been known to become more frequent. But, melatonin helps sleep and the vividness of dreams.

I'd be careful about upping the dosage so soon. It can create a dependence on the supplement, because your body will begin to decrease natural production after prolonged usage of the pill.

But, if you are going to experiment, let me know how it goes, b/c I'm experiencing the same stuff you are, at this point.

I'm using this especially right now due to some sleeping problems I've been having, but am also trying to use this to help me to have an OBE. But, if you're using it to simply help remember dreams, I'd just try to combine it with positive belief and mantras before bed, such as "I will remember my dream" repeated and believed is actually a very, very effective method used regularly. Good Luck!

too much melatonin causes nerve damage...and considering how little they know about it in synthetic form, i definitley wouldnt go beyond 3mg. ive read extensively on it, and from what i understand, youre best to take it every OTHER night at the most because your body quickly adapts to it and it loses its effect. id suggest valerian or a GNC sleepaid and reserve melatonin for lighter usage, assuming you're using it for sleep problems.
