      Hey Guys !

I'm one of the newbies here, too .

I've been frequenting this site for quite some time, but only now decided to join. I've been interested in the topic of LD for over 3 years, but never really tried too much to have one, until about a month ago. I started keeping a DJ and in just 8-9 days, my dream recall has increased from 1 to 4-5 dreams per night. No LDs though. I'm performing Reality checks all the time and trying a lot of methods like WILD (I know it is hard, but it feels like something that could work for me... even though I always fall asleep, only once I got to the stage of Hypnagogic... you know and then fell asleep anyway.), MILD and DILD. I'm also currently reading LaBerge's book.

Still, I'm getting no results other than increasing my dream recall to a point where it's really hard to keep track of all the dreams I had in one night and they also kinda blur together, so it is difficult to tell which part belongs to which dream and therefore I have a really hard time writing it down.

But there was this one time - I woke up in the morning, probably like 8 am, and I suddenly saw two... well.. scenes at once. It was like watching TV. There was this dream scene in the middle of my view, where I stood in a street (It was a real one where my grandma lives, although a bit different), I was able to jump over buldings and knew it was a dream. But on the "borders" of my sight, I was seeing my real surroundings. The bed I was lying in, my GF sleeping,... and the strangest thing was - I also felt awake. I felt that when moving my arms in the dream (while jumping, grabbing on a ledge of a building and so on), My physical arms were moving the same way too. I was really worried that I might hit my GF while doing so . I woke up after a short while. The dream wasn't really "vivid", or intense. More like... transparent.

So what was that? Was it a LD, or just some kind of "intense daydream" ? Anyway, if you guys could give me any advice on the "dream" or just tell me what I'm doing wrong in general (No LDs since the one above), I would be really grateful.

      Welcome BjStrife
Don't know what I would call that dream of yours. Sounds almost lucid, but there are so many variations of dreams/daydreams/visions (whatever they are) that your experience might not fit neatly in any box. I did have a friend once who hit his GF in his sleep a few times. LOL at least he claimed he was asleep.

If you are recalling a lot of dreams I would think about doing a more targeted dream journal. When I want to increase an aspect of my dreams I only make a note of that. For example right now I am trying to increase my color recall so I just write down the colors of stuff I see in my dream. This reduces the work load of too much writing and also tells my brain to focus on (and remember) the colors in my dreams. Just an idea to try, works for me, but everyone is different.

Imagine a place where everything that can happen, does happen; where past, present, and future are all together; a kaleidoscope of worlds – form without substance, ripples upon ripples upon waves upon waves of pure experience – limitless worlds of possibility, existing beyond time ... This is the world ... we visit each night in our dreams.

Writing down only a certain aspect of a dream is a neat idea. I always thought I have to write down as much as possible, but that is probably not necessary anymore, since I can recall so much. Definitely will try that.

Another problem I seem to have with my dreams is that my dream self is simply totally dumb. Seriously, I can do 1000 reality checks daily, yet in my dream I have absolutely no influence on what I'm doing and even when I'm living in a castle, chase white boars with golden fur and work full time as a coffee shredder, I still can't force myself to think about how stupid that truly is and how it cannot be real. The worst case is when I dream about someone else (and that happens A LOT), I just have a dream about someone I've never seen before, instead of dreaming about "myself". But something still tells me it is "me". Like 3 weeks ago, I was dreaming about some boy who was about 12 years old (I am 23 now...) and it was a completely different person, yet the dream seemed to suggest that it is me. And the day after that, I was dreaming about the same exact boy again, but this time, I was myself and was just watching him, but the dream was still focused on him and I was there just as a spectator, sitting by the table and watching/discussing what is happening to him. No idea where that comes from, but like I said, this happens quite often in my dreams. I'm seriously thinking that there must be something trying to prevent me from being able to have LDs.

So is this normal? I guess it might be, but then - what should I do to make my dream self more aware? Even Eckhart Tolle can't help me there . Good thing is that sometimes, I get some serious "movie-like" scenarios in my dreams. About a year ago I had a dream which covered about 10 pages (I didn't have a DJ yet, but had to write that one down), even today I remember every single thing that happened in that dream and It was the most amazing story I've ever been exposed to. Again, I wasn't the main "protagonist" of the dream, but just an "entity" that was watching it from a distance. Strange, really.

I totally agree. I have been working on that problem for the last couple of months. I have a whole long philosophy about it now, but in a nut shell I blame it on the DCs (dream characters.) They think my normal dreams are a virtual reality that they can live/play in but when I am lucid I am in control which conflicts with their agenda.
Sounds like your dream was amazing. If you ever put it on the online dream journal I would like to read it.
      Cheers

Looks like some really selfish bastards have moved into my subconsciousness...

I was thinking of posting the dream here, but it is pretty long and there are many references that would probably not make sense to anyone else but me, so I'd have to somehow "convert" them into something more meaningful. But the closest thing I'd compare the dream to is a mix of "Spirited Away" (A Japanese anime movie) and some cyberpunk influences with a weird soap-opera-like romantic story thrown in.

      Welcome to Dreamviews!

What you had when you woke up could have been HH, or even a LD. Sometimes when you waking up or just falling asleep and you get LD, you can also feel your physical body and perhaps even see around you.

But really, often it's not easy to identify exactly what just happend. But it definitelly is a step to right direction. You have noticed something, that people not practicing LDing don't notice. The "inbetween" stage. Nor awake, nor asleep.

If you like, you can post your dream in our Dream Journal system. People may read it and even comment.

Check out the DV Academy and read the tutorials, posts, and join any class, if you wish some personalized guidance. Happy dreams
