      Post Hello fellow dreamers

Hi, I'm not really very good at introductions but I just wanted to announce myself as a newbie.

I recently discovered the world of Lucid Dreaming quite by accident. I was reading the Harry Potter series for the first time several weeks ago and shortly after finishig the final book I found myself in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I stopped in the middle of the throng of students (I was on my way to class you see) when all of a sudden I stop and look around. I realize that it isn't possible for me to be here, then came to the sudden realization that I was dreaming! I promptly woke up after due to the amount of excitement I expierienced.

Anyway, I hopped on my computer and asked good ole' google if it was possible to experience a "concious dream". that was about 2 weeks ago now and I have been trying my hardest to induce lucidity while dreaming. I was able to become Lucid one more time but my girlfriend woke me from my dream several moments later.

I hope to make some friends here, as I really have nobody else to discuss my LD experiences with. My girlfriend and my roomates have stopped pretending to be interested :p

Nice to meet you all, I'm Warren by the way!

Welcome to dreamviews! I had a dream about Hogwarts once. I spent the whole dream trying to find a spell to open a door that was already open, though. Major fail.

Anyway, just ask if you need to know anything, and you'll definitely be able to people who are excited about Lucid Dreaming on here.. XD

Thank you very much Mystical! I believe the correct spell for opening doors is Alohamora incase you ever find yourself in Hogwarts again hahaha.

There isn't really anything in particular I need to ask right now. I'm fairly new to the whole thing and I don't want to try to take on too much at once and overwhelm myself. I really want to stay dedicated to doing this.

Right now I'm trying to strengthen my dream recollection, if you have any tips to keeping my dream journal that may not be listed in typical Lucid Dreaming FAQs and such I would LOVE to hear them.

I kept saying Abracadabra LOL. Anyway.

Well what I find best (Keep in mind this is just me personally) for dream recall and dream journaling is this:
      • As soon as you wake you, lay still and think about the dream you were just in. Remember as much of it as possible and keep it in your mind.
      • Once you think you have the dream remembered, sit up, and get a notepad that should be next to your bed.
      • Write down key bullet points and any important information to help you remember the dream.
      • Now usually, I have to go to school, so I can't write it up straight away. But then I keep going over the dream in my mind while I get ready.
      • I come back to it after school, and get the notepad out again, and go over everything.
      • I then open my dream journal on my computer (I use microsoft word), and write it out in there, because I find typing helps it go in more.
      • Also when I'm writing my dream, I make sure I do it in a lot of detail. So instead of saying you went into a room, so what the room looked like. How the furniture was set out. The colours. I do this with everything I feel in a dream. That way, my dream journal is written in a lot of detail, so even if your dream isn't, it sets your mind up for the next one to recognize that detail. So after a couple of days, you should notice the vividness increase dramatically.
      • Once I have done this, I highlight anything in the dream that is extremely bizarre. Not just minor things, but something that you should notice straight away as being weird. Like someone having car as a head.
      • I then write these as a list below my journal entry, so that they can be used as dream signs. That way, I can look back and see if I have any reoccurring ones.

So that's the detailed version of what I do, and it definitely works for me.

Wow thank's, I really do appreciate you taking to time to give me some pointers.

I'm already doing most of the first half of your recommendations. I keep a journal in my computer chair within arm's reach so that I can record the dreams that I do remember. The challege that I am facing right now Is when I wake up, my first reaction is to adjust my position/kick of blankets etc. which is jolting me awake and making it hard to grasp the dream that I just had. When i manage to remember I write down some key bullet points, then when i get up and ready for work I write it in more detail before I leave.

I think I'm definitely going to take your recommendation and change my detailed version to a digital format. I find that I shorten my description because my hand cramps after writing a long description.

I also really love the writing down the things that stood out as especially bizarre, I have been wondering how I can start to find dream signs from my journal writings.

This was VERY helpful. Thank you very much and have a good day.
