      Dreaming of Lucid Dreaming

My Daughter has discovered Lucid Dreaming and we have been discussing it in Depth. The other day she announced she'd had a lucid dream. I flippantly asked 'How do you know you were Lucid dreaming and not just dreaming of Lucid dreaming?'. A long, long discussion followed before I confessed that I had asked a trick question. A dream of a lucid dream is surely a lucid dream in itself. Or so I thought. Having dwelt upon it more, I'm not so sure. I am an inveterate dreamer and can readily recall dreams. Like everyone else my dreams are sometimes 'real', with seemingly normal subjects and actions, as well as fantastical. If I can dream of flying on a dragon or somethjng equally unreal, why wouldn't I be able to dream of lucid dreaming, especially if I am currently very interested in the subject?

      Anyone got a view?

Well, if you know you're dreaming then it's a lucid dream, simple as that.

You can do amazing things in a dream that you can't do in real life and it wouldn't be a lucid dream until you knew for a fact that you were dreaming. Even talking about lucid dreaming doesn't guarantee that it's a lucid dream.

Also the only one who can really know if it was a lucid dream is yourself.

      Welcome to Dreamviews!

Funny thing, I just woke up from a dream like that. I would have been an awesom LD, if it indeed was lucid. I was doing all the things you do in LD, but it didn't switch to a LD feel. It didn't turn 3D. I didn't become part of the dream. I didn't feel the elements (wind on my face...etc). I didn't feel happy, or surprised, or any other feeling.

I acted as when I become lucid (only I didn't) and did reality checks. Started to push my thumb through palm (very common RC for me) and it started to hurt (ok, so I did feel something here), so I stopped. Then I pinched my nose and was able to breathe with no problem. Got outside and hovered over a street, while yelling commands of things I wanted to do. "Take me to beach, no, to Tahity", "Take me to space, a Galaxy". But I don't think anything happened. I got an idea, that maybe I should ask for some visual clue, like I did in one of my real LDs, to have a light (portal) to show up in the sky.

So the dream had the right elements, and I was somewhat thinking logically (remembering my goals), but it never clicked that I'm in a dream. I didn't know I'm dreaming. I didn't get the "wow, it's a dream" type of a feeling. Normally when I fly in a LD, I get extremely excited about it, I laugh out loud and that usually wakes me up. I flew in 99% of my 100 lucid dreams, and flying still gets me like that. But in this dream, it didn't do a thing to me.

I hope you and your daughter visit Dreamviews often and share your experiences. Happy dreams

      Hi there CluelessCris.
Welcome to DV. Its so awesome when you have someone in the family that you can dream with. My Lady has had a few Lucid dreams now. She even went flying last night. Now she can understand what I am talking about when I go on and on about my warm climate dream vacations. It is friggin freezing where I live, a snow storm right now and the wind shaking the house. But no worries, I will be laying on a warm dream beach later tonight.
      Cheers

Imagine a place where everything that can happen, does happen; where past, present, and future are all together; a kaleidoscope of worlds – form without substance, ripples upon ripples upon waves upon waves of pure experience – limitless worlds of possibility, existing beyond time ... This is the world ... we visit each night in our dreams.

There is definitely a difference. Iv only had 3 lucid dreams but iv also had around 5 dreams where I dreamt I was lucid dreaming. I dont know how to logically explain the difference but there is definitely a big difference. The only thing I can think of to kinda explain the difference is that when you dream of lucid dreaming it does feel kinda real while dreaming but after you wake up it feels like a dream.. A true lucid dream never has that dream feel. It feels real while you're dreaming and after you wake up. Hard to explain tho since iv only had 3 lucids

The goal will be to devise a test that tells you if you are dreaming of lucid dreaming or are actually lucid dreaming. Or maybe there could be a technique/strategy to turn a dream of lucidity into actual lucidity.

My LDing record, if you want to hear about it, is about 4 WILDs, 1 DEILD, and the rest DILDs.
