      Help!!

Hey, y'all. I'm new to dv.com, actually I just created my account less than half an hour ago.
What prompted me to do so was an intense dream that I had which included multiple false awakenings.. So I searched in Google ''false awakening nightmare'' and was led here.
      Anyhow.
I am in desperate need of direction.. I'm not even sure where to begin in the process of lucid dreaming. I have read a few threads, and some have given me ideas, however none make complete sense.
      I would appreciate any advice!!
      Thanks!!

Welcome to DV! You have come to the right place to learn about lucid dreaming. There is lots of info on LD here, and with time you will learn that there is nothing to be worried about. Actually, false awakenings (FA) can be a good sign as you progress with LD. As you begin to do reality checks, for example, you may be able to take advantage of FA and turn them into lucids.

I leave it now to our moderators to give you the most relevant links to start. Have fun and see you around!

Welcome to DV! A good first step is to start a dream journal to record your dreams in, so that you familiarize yourself with them and start seeing patterns. False awakenings are a good step toward lucid dreaming: what many people do, especially ones who have frequent false awakenings is to make it a routine to always do a reality check upon waking up, so that if it is a false awakening you are likely to become lucid. There are many ways to do a reality check. For example: ask yourself whether the place you woke up is like your bedroom usually is, whether it is just like the place where you went to sleep or whether there is something significantly different about it; check the time on your watch/alarm clock/phone (but it has to be digital, this will not work if it is analog) then look away and imagine/visualize a different number for the time and when you look back has the time changed in a way that it would not in waking life?; pinch your nose with your fingers and try to breathe through your closed nose and if you can, you are dreaming. Good luck!

      Welcome uglymags!

Good that you found us ^^ just a bit of effort and time and soon enough you'll be able to taste lucidity and use those false awakenings to start your adventures.

You can refer to this excellent guide written by Puffin, the best tool you can use to introduce yourself to the concept and basics of lucid dreaming. You'll notice that is also presents links to other tutorials, because there's many ways of inducing lucidity. It's mostly a state of mind which you not only achieve in your dreams, but also during your waking life, as several exercises are to be practiced during the day so you can form habits that eventually show up in your dreams.

The basic tools are the dream journal and starting to get the hang of reality checks: questioning your surroundings or even yourself ("why am I here?" "is this a dream?" "that situation is strange, am I dreaming?"), followed by a simple action to determine if you're really awake or not As you will read in the guide, the basics are the pillars of lucidity, and are crucial throughout your entire lucid dreaming journey. You can also sign up for our DV academy, where you take classes in lucid dreaming. Here's the link for OpheliaBlue's intro class, just sign up and you're good to go!

If you have any questions, just pm the guys with green names (Dream guides) or post right here. As you can see by NyxCC and JoannaB's posts, we're a very friendly and helpful community so expect to find advice everywhere around the forum Good luck!
