      A Few 'Dream-Rumors'.

If you die in a dream, do you die in real life? If not, what happens?

I read that someone on here wanted to learn to LD to have more time to practis a music insturment. Now... if thats possible (it sounds possible to me), there might be more to LDing than most people recognize, right?

I can tell you the first rumor is nonsense. I remember dying in my dreams, once or twice, by falling off of something high. I woke up after that and I'm pretty much alive I think.

About the practising in a LD... there is a thread about that... I'll try to find it for ya.

      edit: clicky There you go.

Well as Deere said there's nothing special about death in a dream.. Its not like Matrix or anything .. I once had a strange dream where a small dragon ate me and then spit me up and then ate me again, and i died everytime he did it. And nothing special happend.

And about the practicing an intrument, I once read that if you do for example motocross in a dream you will find yourself more prepaired in waking life than you would of been if you hadn't done it in a dream.

In my personal experience playing guitar in a dream doesn't work, at least when im not lucid, I once had a dream i was trying to show some guys an awesome song that i learned (in waking life) and the guitar sounded really bad like it was broken or something..

I hope i could answer your questions.

      Hi
You are still here with us, so dreaming about death doesn't mean it will happen.. phew! With little information on the context of your dream, I can't explain anymore. Dreaming of death can mean so many things. In waking life, you could be experiencing a rebirth, such as a new experience, moving house, changing jobs etc. Dreaming of death may also mean an obstacle of some sort and these types of dreams tend to be recurring. Also, there are premonitions, for example, I dreamt that I attended a funeral and several weeks later, I had news that someone had passed away and I then attended the funeral and people that were at the funeral were the same people in the dream wearing the same clothes etc.
An example of a recurring death dream I had is one that was the same all the time except it had different endings. The first time, I was stabbed and died and laid there for a while. The next time I dreamt the same thing, I wasn't scared anymore and then the next time, I got rid of the guy by just standing there and talking back to him, I scared him away. The aim is to realise that you are "within the dream" and stay calm, the more control you have of the outcome.

To my knowledge visualisation techniques (meditative state) are used by athletes and musicians etc to enhance performance and my understanding is that the meditative state is different from lucid dreaming.
