Welcome wEEtoZ!
That does, indeed, sound like a tiny lucid dream. You got to the 'ah-hah!' moment and then probably woke up from the excitement. The trick is getting from that realization to continuing on in the dream itself.
With your dream journal, make sure you give yourself the time to think through your dreams in the morning. Being in a rush to get to work, school, or whatever, can switch your brain's recall right off. Next, be consistent and write in it every day. Recall and lucid dreaming, in general, takes persistent effort to improve at.
Keep excited, think about what you will do in your dreams, read up on a couple of techniques here you will try for some time and you will be on your way. Everyone goes at their own pace, so there's no cheat sheet I can give you just yet.
