You have to make actual all day awareness actions. Not just mental daytime reality checks

When passing a light switch, you MUST turn it on, and off every time.
Do this so that your family becomes annoyed with you, and tells you to stop.

Same thing with floating
Stand there, and try to float a few inches above the floor. Do this many times a day, until family members notice you doing it.

Any other reality awareness exercises should also be included into your training.
Pretend the training is for a competition, and treat it as such. Eat, and breath lucid dreaming for a fortnight.

It is important not to try lucid dreaming in the first fortnight, as even experienced dreamers have off times.
Failing after a few days practice is a sure way to put up a mental block.

One of the most important things is a dream diary, which will vastly improve your dream recall.
