      Wink Hello Night

      Hi everyone, call me Illium.

I'm not necessarily new to Lucid Dreaming, but I've never had much success with it. This is largely due to my own lack of discipline in waking up at the same time and keeping a dream journal. I'm ready to start fresh and start small. I'm throwing everything I've tried in the past out the window, and I'm willing to listen to any and all advice.

Does anyone know of a sort of course or plan that I could follow? I'm looking for something that I could do step by step that will lead me on my way to becoming an Onironaught.

      Thanks!

Hi, illium. Well, there are two techniques you can try: DILD and WILD. DILD is where you start in the dream normally and become lucid at some point during the dream. In order to prepare for this, it is best to keep a dream journal, as it will help you remember any lucid dreams you do have and can also help you understand your dreams and locate dream signs.
The second thing to do is to regularly perform reality checks, with the idea being that the habit will creep into your dream self and allow you to question whether its reality or not.

The second technique is WILD and, while it doesn't explicitly require a dream journal, it can still help dramatically. The idea of a WILD is to have lucidity at the start of a dream. You achieve this by allowing your body to fall asleep, but keeping your mind awake. You'll know when your body has fallen asleep, due to some unmistakeable sensations, which, although different for everyone, are usually obvious. As for keeping your mind awake, mantras are among the most common method. Finally, its best not to try WILD until you've already had 5 to 6 hours of sleep. If you need more explanation on this, I'd check out Sageous's guide:WILD Which is sort of a step-by-step guide.

Hope this was helpful and good luck.

Thanks. I've primarily tried doing WILD in the past and have had little to no success, so this time around I'm going to be focusing on the DILD method. Any tips with keeping a dream journal? My problem starts when I begin fully remembering my dreams. They get so long and detailed that, although I want to write them all down, it becomes a bit of a burden writing so much after I've just woken up. I've tried tape recorders in the past too, but unless I transcribed it later, I wouldn't be able to go back and look at them all in the way I can with written dreams.

I've been using the voice memo app on my iPhone to record my dreams. Eventually I hope to get some sort of voice to text app that will enable a printed version.

You have to make actual all day awareness actions. Not just mental daytime reality checks

When passing a light switch, you MUST turn it on, and off every time.
Do this so that your family becomes annoyed with you, and tells you to stop.

      Same thing with floating
Stand there, and try to float a few inches above the floor. Do this many times a day, until family members notice you doing it.

Any other reality awareness exercises should also be included into your training.
Pretend the training is for a competition, and treat it as such. Eat, and breath lucid dreaming for a fortnight.

It is important not to try lucid dreaming in the first fortnight, as even experienced dreamers have off times.
Failing after a few days practice is a sure way to put up a mental block.

One of the most important things is a dream diary, which will vastly improve your dream recall.

I really like this. Makes it feel more goal oriented which I think is important in a subject thats so.. subjective. For lack of a better word. So constant awareness checks, focus on technique for two weeks without actually trying to lucid dream, and keep a good dream journal.

Also, is it possible to keep too much in a dream journal? If I remember five dreams a night, which isn't really difficult for me when I get into the swing of things, should I really write down all five dreams with complete detail every morning? It just seems like it might turn the dream journal into more of a chore. And I definitely don't want that happening. By the way, I'm thinking more long term here. for the first two weeks, I'm definitely going to record every dream I have.

      Thanks again.

If the idea of writing dreams down may sound repetitive, then do not do it.
Just wake, and write down a few key words from each dream.
Then use a microphone, and record your dream journal in audio.
You can then have a PC based dream diary. Backed up with audio
Use google to find images that fit in your dreams, and shove them in there as well

If I were to start a lucid dream tutorial, it would not involve any attempts to lucid dream at all.
Just daytime 'mind training' to get you in the right frame of mind.
The lucid dreams would then come more naturaly, and be much easier to master.

Nothing in the real world can be mastered on the first attempt, even walking takes years to acheive.
You should look on this task as something that has been acheived by many.
