Hi everyone! Was I lucid or was I not?

Hey everyone, I'm blitzy, but my real name is Eric. I've been trying to lucid dream for about 3 months now and haven't had any progress. I do keep a dream journal but my recall is still bad, i can put a dream in there every 3-5 days, every day if i'm lucky, but i'm gradually getting better.

Anyways I want to get to the point that a dream I had was extremely weird this morning. Here it is, I was dreaming I was in school, but the school was on a cruise. I was skipping class and was in a study hall which are held in the cafeteria with all my friends. I was looking for someone to tell me what period it was so I can go back to the correct class. I turned a corner around a pillar and all of a sudden this thought of "i'm dreaming" hit me!

After that thought hit me it felt like I was going through some time of transformation. Such as if you were to step in a teleporter, that kind of feeling. I can't explain it, but i felt like i had vertigo and was moving in a downward motion and then ended up lying on the ground. My vision was really blurry but everything seemed to feel more "3-D" After that feeling i got really nervous since i didn't want to be stuck in that state forever, so i started moving back and forth like some type of nightmare and then I woke up.

Now this never happened to me before and I never had a lucid dream before so i don't know what its life. But Its confusing since i knew i was dreaming, but i couldn't control that transformation type thing, nor can i control where i ended up (after that transformation I ended up in a field) Anyways I don't know if i could control that nervousness but since i am quite a nervous and anxious person I might of, but still not sure nonetheless.

My friend told me he thinks it was a borderline lucid dream. Although I'm not sure, I'd love to here what some of the experts here think, Thanks!!

      Welcome to Dreamviews Blitzy!

First of all, congratulations on your lucid dream. Technically, just as there isn't something as a "severe concussion", there also isn't something as a "borderline" lucid dream. Lucid dreaming refers to the realization that one is in a dream, and any other factors besides that realization (like clarity of thought, memory, dream vividness, recall) are simply complementary to the experience.
For beginners, there is nothing more important than to realize that any lucid dream is something to be proud of: regardless of it lasting a few seconds, or you not being able to control the dream, or any other issue, it's a sign that you're lucid dreaming training is paying off. Get used to these short experiences, because they will occur even when you become an expert: sometimes the lucid is just plain weird

From now on, you want to (in your mind) recreate the experience you just had, and use it to get a grasp of what being lucid in a dream means. You already discovered 2 crucial aspects to improving the quality of your lucid dream experience:

      - Maintain yourself calm. Getting too excited might make you wake up, ending the lucid dream. Remember that nothing can harm you, even extreme situations such as dying, falling, showing up in a weird place, or any interaction with any Dream Character. The experience may have seemed extremely awkward, but you'll get used to it after a few more lucid dreams
      - Stabilizing the dream is always the nr1 action to do: not only it will prevent you from waking up prematurely, but will also make your ideas a bit clearer, and giving you some time to think about what you want to do. Here's a great stabilization tutorial.

Any other doubt you might have, just shoot away

Thanks for the advice! Since I'm very new at this I do have some questions. This strange transformation I had in the dream from not being lucid, to being lucid. I'm wondering is that normal? When you're in a dream and you go lucid, do you go through some type of transformation, or is it like, hmm, hard to explain, so you are dreaming and not aware of it, then you see something that makes you realize you are dreaming, do you stay in that same dream environment of your current dream and you're just aware that you're dreaming, or do you go through this so called transformation I had from a not so vivid uncontrollable dream to a vivid controllable moment. That moment of transformation sort of confused me :S. Another is i'm not sure why I got so nervous or why things were so blurry? Is there any explanation for either one of those things?

Also another thing why can't i do Reality checks in my dreams? I have an app on my phone that reminds me to do one every hour, and the reality check is trying to put my finger through my palm while repeatedly saying "i am aware that I'm dreaming" I have been doing this for months now and they really don't seem to be doing any good. What am i doing wrong?
